In his home town of London David Mensah has been steadily building a following for his unique blend of Soul since the release of his debut single “Food of Love” through UNIVERAL MUSIC in 2008. Since then Mensah has supported MARIO at the O2, jammed with OMAR at the Jazz Cafe and opened for double platinum RnB superstars NEXT, playing to crowds of up to 30,000 people. Mensah has also worked with and performed alongside artists such as BILLY OCEAN, JUNIOR GISCOMBE, BEVERLY KNIGHT, ALEXANDER O’NEAL, JIMMY CLIFF, SHOLA AMA, ROACHFORD, JESSIE J and LEMAR to name a few.
Mensah’s debut album “Music is the Food of Love” released through VME Records played on radio stations all over the world and led to touring in FRANCE, NORWAY, GERMANY, GENEVA, MONACO and the USA. The first single from the album “My Day” went straight into the TOP 10 on the SOLAR SWEET RHYTHM CHART as well as holding the top 5 spot for several weeks on the SOUL CONNEXIONS CHART, the two main charts for soul globally.
“Music is the Food of Love” was produced by world renowned WAYNE BROWN famed for his work with EARTH WIND & FIRE, GEORGE MICHAEL and Lulu. Mensah also managed to enlist the production skills of ERIC COPTIC MATLOCK better known for his worldwide number 1 hit “I Need a Girl” with Diddy and Usher as well as records for a list of artist that reads like a who’s who of HipHop and Rnb to include BIGGY, SNOOP, TREY SONGZ, FAITH EVANS and many more.
A recent Collaboration with JAY Z's right hand man MEMPHIS BLEEK for a project with JIM JONES, WU TANG, MOBB DEEP and KRS1 make it hard to categorise Mensah as just another Soul singer.
Always passionate about expanding his music horizons Mensah teamed up with Daniel James (AKA) Future Disciple to record “Straddle Me” his first venture into the world of dance music. With the video for "Straddle Me" playing on TV across the UK, Africa, France and Germany Mensah attracted the attention of legendary house music producers X-Press 2 for a project in collaboration with DJuma to record his latest release “Employee of the Year” which has received big support from the leading tastemaker dj’s in the world such as M.A.N.D.Y., Aki Bergen, Dubfire, Tocadisco, Axwell (Swedish House Mafia) , Mark Knight, Tiger Stripes, John Digweed, Sander Kleinenberg, Bill Brewster, Smokin Jo, Above & Beyond, UMEK, Robert Owens, Hector Romero, Seamus Haji, DJ Ravine, Satoshi Fumi, Luciano.
