Black Robin Hero / Bio

Black Robin Hero is a rock n' roll revival. Filling a void for the kind of music people have been craving for a long time but just can't seem to get enough of these days. Strong songwriting, heartache soaked vocals, and swirling guitars that dance together like they used to long ago are what make this band. Asheville, NC's Black Robin Hero is carrying on a tradition of song that people know and love and with an urgency of the present, like so few bands do in our time.

Formed after an impressionable chance visit to Asheville, NC from San Francisco by Matt Lane in 2009, Black Robin Hero was born shortly after Lane decided to make the cross country move back to the southeast and make Asheville his home later in the year. Lane had been honing in his skills as a songwriter for the past year holed up in his studio apartment on the corner of Haight and Fillmore and playing open mic nights in the Bay Area when life had him craving to get back to the Carolinas for a slower and more gratifying lifestyle. This time around Lane settled for the rich-cultured mountains of North Carolina instead of the South Carolina coast where he spent many years as a musician prior to living in California.  It wasn't long after the move he realized that two of his co-workers at the restaurant where he worked were also musicians and chef J. Rowland, bartender Shawn Oldham, and Lane began molding a backlog of Lane's material into what would become Black Robin Hero songs. The band then added Greg Terkelsen (This Man's Hat) and Brian Ross to the group and started performing around the Asheville Area and gearing up for their debut album Narrow Plains EP.

With their debut album (recorded at famed Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville) Black Robin Hero came "out of the gate with cymbals flaring, guitars revving, kick-drum taking a beating… No apologies, no awkward silences, no stammer, no sidelong glances. Just all systems go, full speed ahead, take no prisoners, charge" as described by Asheville's Mountain Xpress magazine. "This is how you make an entrance." Their music is reminiscent of all that lies in between San Francisco and Asheville..."stretching out over soundscapes of dusty highway miles, sun-drenched plains, places found off highways and around hairpin turns."

Since their first album, the band has been finding their way into some of the finest regional music festivals and venues the Southeast has to offer and has been gaining a reputation with their exciting live show. The dual guitar attack, catchy melodies and "bruised knuckle intensity" vocals are catching on and their tune has been heard on the airwaves of the finest independent radio stations up and down the east coast.

Black Robin Hero has recently added drummer Dane Rand (Pierce Edens & The Dirty Work and Dane Rand) to replace Brian Ross and gear up for their next record due out in 2015.  They are working with western North Carolina Local Legend, producer and musician Matt Williams (Zansa/Tiny Boxes) at his Eagle Room studios in Weaverville, NC and are currently putting the finishing touches on their soon to come second release.
