Released on September 5th, 2014, Kurtis' debut EP, CONFLICT, reached #1 on iTunes Ireland Singer-Songwriter Chart and the Top 10 in the iTunes Ireland Album Chart.
Recently Kurtis signed a management deal in Los Angeles, where he met IDMA Award winning DJ, tyDi. Through their friendship and partnership he has released a new single, Crossfire, on June 2nd. The track is a collaboration between Wish I Was, a Los Angeles based EDM group whom tyDi signed to his label. Wish I Was/Kurtis Wade - Crossfire is an EDM-pop crossover song about to hit the summer festivals. A sonic departure from his own sound, Kurtis took the chance to record an EDM song to showcase his versatility as a songwriter and vocalist. Kurtis wrote the song and performs on it while tyDi produced the track for his alter ego, Wish I Was. Following that release on June 2nd 2015, Kurtis became the first unsigned Irish artist to be play-listed on Sirius XM when Crossfire was play-listed by Sirius XM Electro across the US. Two weeks later, Kurtis was chosen as Homegrown Hero by Dermot & Dave on TodayFM for which Crossfire received national Irish radio play. The song has since garnered radio play across the US and Ireland, was chosen as Song Of The Week on Dublin's 98FM and has continued to gather momentum, while circulating Kurtis' name across the music industry.
Born in Cork, raised in Dublin; on the music of his parents generation. A musical household, his parent used to sing to him. Hearing the lyrics of Dylan, witnessing the energy of Springsteen and taken by the melodies of MJ, Kurtis has early exposure for the beginnings of a songwriter. A talented football player, scouted for the big clubs in England like Manchester Utd and Manchester City, Kurtis spent most of his youth travelling for tournaments. At 16, music took over. Kurtis saved up and bought a guitar and a keyboard. He had secretly been penning lyrics for years. He thought himself to play guitar and keys, decided the best place to get hired as a songwriter was the US and decided to move therel.
At 18, he packed his bags, used his football talents to gain a scholarship to the US and studied music. He travelled to Arkansas, listening to and learning from the folk and bluegrass masters before heading to San Francisco and being exposed to the great poetry and literature that arose during the 60s and 70s, fused with an introduction to electronic music and music production. It was his next stop however, that really struck a chord.
Music City USA, Nashville, Tennessee. The home of country music, but that home has an open door policy. You'll find rock, pop, blues, soul and just about any genre you could ask for. Like the Ryan Tedder's and so many others of this world, Nashville proved the ideal place for Kurtis to hone his songwriting skills and etch out his own sound. While walking down Broadway one day with his guitar, a man outside one of the bars asked him to play a song. Having done so, the man revealed his sons own the bar and he manages one of them, multi platinum pop singer-songwriter, Gavin DeGraw.
Over the course of the following months, Kurtis was taken under the wing of Wayne DeGraw, getting to know Gavin and the whole family, and gaining invaluable experience and knowledge of songwriting, performing and the music industry. Since then, he has rubbed shoulders with the likes of The Fray, Ed Sheeran, Kodaline and OneRepublic.
In January 2014, Kurtis returned to Nashville to record his debut EP with well respected producer, Dune Baydoun. The release is a culmination of the experiences and hard work of the previous two to three years. The lead single of which, "War", was chosen as Song Of The Week on Dublin's 98FM in February 2015. Just five months later Kurtis would have a second single chosen as Song Of The Week on 98FM (Crossfire), making his the first unsigned artist to accomplish this feat in under 6 months.
Kurtis headed to LA following the release and signed a management deal with Broken Chair Management. Over the course of this relationship, Kurtis has headlined at the iconic House Of Blues on the Sunset Strip, played numerous showcases across Los Angeles and is currently recording his next EP at the studio of songwriting powerhouse, The Underdogs.
Aside from his accolades as a solo artist, Kurtis is an accomplished and extremely versatile songwriter. Writing in styles varying from pop to rock to country to EDM to hip-hop to americana. Kurtis is currently penning songs for a number of artist, both high-profile and recently signed.
Expect to see big things from Kurtis by the end of 2015.
