NAKED SUNDAY are a dirty rock three-piece based in the Midlands. Formed in 2012, the trio is comprised of Martin Stanyer (vocals, guitar, piano), Laura Stanyer (bass, backing vocals) and Craig Stanley (drums).
The band play eclectic mix of classic rock, moving effortlessly from upbeat, anthemic songs to slower, more emotive, ballads. Their distinction comes from Martin's high-pitched vocals and flamboyant guitar playing, and Laura's expressive bass lines, while Craig is the backbone of the band, keeping the music solid and grounded.
Songwriting is a collaborative process between the three – sometimes well-considered, other times improvised – but their approach places melody firmly at the centre of the picture. Vocalist and guitarist Martin Stanyer said, “We're defined by songs more than a sound. We try and let the song dictate the sound instinctively. But most importantly, all the songs tell a story; they have that lived-in experience that people can relate to and identify with.”
The band has gained much exposure in both local and national press, including reviews in Kerrang!, Bizarre and Full House magazine. Radio, too, has been quick to champion the band, with notable airplay from BBC Stoke, BBC WM and Moorlands Radio as well as Dublin based radio FRQ.FM and USA Brooklyn based radio Rockers Dive . They have even received endorsements from such luminaries as Robin Guy (Rachel Stamp, Faith No More) and Ron Thal (Guns N' Roses).
Naked Sunday have made notable headway on the live music scene, performing at a myriad of prestigious venues across the UK, including the The Cavern Club, The Riverroom, and The Robin 2 as well as the Sandymount in Wales. They have also performed at Stafford Castle Music Festival and VanFest, and supported the likes of Molly Hatchett,Sondura,White Coast Rebels (featuring Jim Houghton ex Blaze Bayley/Mott the hoople), Bad Manners and Karen Coleman.
Bassist Laura Stanyer said, “The live shows bring out the vaudevillian aspect of the band. We're less reserved and we get a chance to highlight our showmanship. The personalities within the band are all different and everyone brings something unpredictable to the table. But we also have the ability to strip things down in an acoustic setting, so we can appeal to a wider audience.”
Naked Sunday have released 2 EP and two singles to date. 'Stanyerland – EP' and 'Sunflowers in the rain EP' are available exclusively at concerts and 'Travellin' Man' is available via iTunes and all other good digital retailers.
