Big Mama E and the Cool is a five piece rock & roll band based in Raleigh/Durham N.C. They play original music with a southern R&B influence. The band has been performing together since 1997. They have completed two full length studio CD’S with a third recording in the works.
Big Mama E and the Cool is: Emma Davis on vocals; Olly Roberts on acoustic guitar and bass; Ken Weigand on bass and guitar; Mike Edwards on guitar and Dan Davis on drums. The band has many years of experience and a passion for playing their version of great rock and roll!
The band released their self-titled debut CD in April of 1998 and their sophomore effort, High Maintenance, in June of 2002. Both recordings were produced by Wes Lachot and recorded at Overdub Lane studios in Durham, N.C. Since then, the group has performed at festivals and clubs all over North Carolina including the BB King Blues Festival at Alltel Pavilion in Raleigh, N.C.; the Lexington BBQ Festival; Artsplosure in Raleigh, N.C., Festifall and Apple Chill in Chapel Hill, N.C., the Carrboro Music Festival; Spring Days and Lazy Days in Cary, N.C., Four Triangle Food Shuttle Benefits as well as clubs such as the Blue Bayou in Hillsborough, N.C.; the Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro, N.C.; the Lincoln Theater in Raleigh; the Blind Tiger in Greensboro, Papa Mojo’s Roadhouse in Durham and other cities including Fayetteville, High Point, Greenville and Wilmington, N.C.
Currently, Big Mama E is working on their third release of all original songs. The group is recording at Cavern Studios and will be working with Producer John Plymale (Squirrel Nut Zippers, Superchunk, Alejandro Escovedo) for post-production work. Please look for a new disc before the end of the world in 2012!
