Cliff and Ivy is Alaska's only goth band. They perform as a duo. Although the music scene in the frozen north is small, winters are hard, making writing and rehearsing a matter of creative survival. Cliff and Ivy have written and performed together for over 20 years. Their background includes playing in the local hardcore punk and goth scenes in NY/NJ, and northern CA.
Their sound involves rhythmic brazen industrial synth contrasted with classical-esque piano hooks. The guitar and bass have a full sound with organic qualities. Vocal delivery includes harmonies and hooks, and spoken lyric segments which sit somewhere between rap and spoken word, and could stand alone as poetic imagery without music. People tell us our lyrics are like post apocalyptic prophecy, or full of pagan magic.
Cliff and Ivy's inspiration comes from art, punk, hardcore, old school goth and EBM, no wave, industrial music, tribal music, current events and unwritten history. Cliff and Ivy have been compared to Killing Joke, Ministry, and Siouxsie and the Banshees, with a hint of No Doubt and Garbage.
Cliff and Ivy have toured in the LA area and east coast USA. The touring band featured 6 members. (they currently perform as a duo)
Cliff and Ivy's touring drummer was Don Bolles (The Germs, 45 Grave).
