The Archives began when Thievery Corporation's Eric Hilton began a quest to explore the roots of reggae music. He contacted keyboard ace Darryl Burke to bring in players that would bring a progressive vibe to the music. After a year of writing & recording The Archives was formed.
The band landed a 2 yr residency at DC club Patty Boom Boom that allowed them build a loyal fan base and to hone their sound, foundation roots ,rock steady and early dancehall reggae influences with arrangements that use funky throwbacks such as jazz flute & melodica.
The debut album 'Archives' just released on ESL Music is 13 songs of smoking soul & sufferation. A 21 century band with really deep roots in reggae's evolution. Same tree, new leaves.
