Vicious Rumors is an American power metal band, originally formed in 1979 in the San Francisco, California Bay Area. The band was conceived by founder & guitarist/vocalist Geoff Thorpe, and the band has been actively recording and touring worldwide since their full-length recording debut in 1985. The band is signed to Germany-based label SPV/Steamhammer records.
Guitarist and composer Thorpe began his musical career as a teenager in Honolulu, Hawaii. Thorpe had set out to start forming the band in the San Francisco Bay Area during the summer of 1979. Their first album, 1985's "Soldiers Of The Night", introduced the world to guitarist Vinnie Moore, and established VR as an important metal act of the era. Popular MTV videos, numerous world tours, and classic metal album after classic metal album...has solidified their reputation over the years.
Band leader Thorpe also has sat in on sessions alongside veteran British session guitarist Martin Pugh (of Steamhammer, the 1st Rod Stewart solo album, and Armageddon) and drummer Tim Kelliher (of Randy Hansen's Machine Gun) for American rock & roll band 7th Order (founded by Thorpe's childhood friend from Hawaii, Daniel Jones) on their debut CD, "The Lake of Memory" (2003), and "The Initiate's Journey, 2003–13" (2015).
A new studio album, Electric Punishment, was recorded and released on the SPV label in 2013 - and their first-ever live dates for South America took place in December 2014 (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Negrinho, Buenos Aires, Curitiba) Pre-production for the new Vicious Rumors studio album started in Summer 2015, and the new studio album, to be released via SPV/Steamhammer Records, is planned for Spring 2016.
