On 4/20 the year 2011, 3 heads that Funnel joined forces over sodas and swinging bats. Hailing from Dana Point CA, The Funnel Heads are not to be taken lightly. Mixing a huge mash up of all music that isn’t lame, they have developed their own original sound. Derived from a love of music in general, they have uniquely developed their own flavor capturing the vibe of their south Orange County hometown.
Lead singer Alex “Italix” Roth who holds a background in Hip Hop music teamed up with brothers Preston (lead guitar, bass), and Madison Tripp (drums, rhythm guitar). They jammed once and automatically clicked. Over soda pop and sugar cones the union was formed and they labeled themselves The Funnel Heads.
Madison Tripp is a 16 year old drumming phenomenon who has silenced the critics. Not only does Madison play drums like a seasoned vet, he is also a key factor in the writing process, bringing many guitar rhythms and ideas to the table. His older brother Preston (19yrs old) lives and breathes guitar. His solos are breath-taking and his understanding of music are beyond his years. Preston provides a musical foundation for the band to build upon song by song. Alex “Italix” Roth is a hip hop artist/singer who has been known in the underground hip hop scene for his deep voice, intelligent word-play, and conscious lyrics. He has opened for acts such as Method Man and The Game, and has worked with some of the hottest up and coming producers in southern California. With such a diverse musical background each of The Funnel Heads brings their expertise to the table.
Writing over 40 songs in 6 months, they hit the studio for the first time in fall 2011, and are currently riding the momentum of their first two singles. Recorded at 17th Street Studios, Costa Mesa California by Lewis Richards, the singles have been touching people lives. Richards a man behind many dope records, but in recent memory “Lay Me Down” by Dirty Heads featuring Rome of Sublime with Rome laced the boys with two big songs “Different Views” and Happiness Won’t Come”. Shortly after the first two singles, they recorded their latest song with Richards “Don’t Worry” which is set to make its mark as an inspirational and timeless classic. “Don’t Worry” is currently in the process of getting distributed to radio across the globe.
Along with working at 17th Street Studios, The Funnel Heads have also been working with California Sound Studios in Lake Forest California. They recorded their first single for Wright Records under the guidance of Dustin Lees (head engineer) as well as producer/artist Frank Wright (Chicago, Sonny and Cher, etc). For such a young band, the boys have made a deep impression on the music scene around them and its apparent by the support they have received so far. It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the band.
Due to a couple skateboarding accidents The Funnel Heads are currently on hold performance wise. Lead singer Italix broke his ankle skateboarding 2 weeks before they were to begin gigging in Fall 2011. While he is recovery from the accident they have been fine tuning and adding to their set lists, as well as tuning in a new bassist. In great anticipation of taking up the many gigs they have been offered, they have been working relentlessly to take their music to the people. They are coming to a stage near you beginning in 2012 dates and venues to be announced. Their first LP Funnel Heads Generation is due summer 2012, and is set to showcase the bands diversity. The Funnel Heads are a band the world should look out for this year.
