Katherine E. Roberts (Stella) is a fascinating mix of gospel, jazz and rock sensibilities. The tone quality of her voice is unique, and her style is heartfelt and direct. Katherine is at home being accompanied by other musicians as well as singing acapella. She participated in the 2nd annual Phoenix Renaissance Gospel Fest at First Presbyterian of Myrtle Beach along with Stella award nominee Wes Morgan,and well-known gospel artists Flossie Boyd & Favor, and has sung in numerous choruses and choirs beginning at the age of seven including Christ United Methodist in MB, SC, North Myrtle Beach All-City chorus, Dalton First United Methodist, Dalton First Baptist, Catamount Singers, and Baker's Dozen. Katherine enjoys breathing fresh life into old favorites. She performs renditions of Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Carole King, Janis Joplin, Joan Jett, and Stevie Nicks, as well as other gospel, country, rock, oldies and patriotic favorites with the King Shazaam show, currently performing at Springmaid Pier every Tuesday evening and Second Avenue Pier every Sunday evening Summer 2015 in Myrtle Beach. Some of Katherine's best songs include "Ain't Misbehavin"; "All of Me"; "Me and Bobby McGhee", "A Tisket, A-Tasket"; and "On My Own". She has enjoyed singing from an early age, and particularly enjoys improvisational skat singing and acapella singing. She has sung and performed chorus and supporting actress roles in musicals such as "Westside Story", "Grease", and "Cinderella". She also told ghost stories as haunted tour guide "Pirate Esmeralda" for Ghosts and Legends Theatre at Barefoot Landing, NMB, SC.Venues Katherine has played include Alouette's Jazz Club in Charleston, SC; Hot Summer Nights at Plyler Park, MB; Cagney's Piano Bar in Myrtle Beach, SC; Willoughby's Club in Leland, NC; the North Myrtle Beach Irish-Italian Festival, the Creative Arts Guild Noon Arts Series in Dalton, GA and the Artists in the Kitchen art festival in Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan, NY, NY, where she performed an hour of acapella jazz favorites, originals and scat singing. Katherine has also performed at Valentine's parties, Bar Mitzvahs, class reunions, and employee appreciation banquets in North Carolina and South Carolina. Katherine would like to give credit to her current and former vocal coaches Pamela Cannon-Cook, Ruth Baker, Hasu Patel and Stephanie Black for helping her develop her singing style, expanding her range, and helping her to develop a more open and clear tone. She would like to thank Donald "Bones" Boring of The Music Factory in Dalton, GA for producing and engineering early recordings of her voice and playing piano for her at the Blues Train and the Creative Art's Guild's Noon Arts series concert. She would like to thank Jay Burgess, sound engineer at Ocean 10 Studios (MB, SC) and Pamela Cannon-Cook (MB, SC) of Next Level Talent and Vocal Productions for engineering and producing all the recordings on this site. Pamela also helped produce earlier recordings still available on myspace.com/stellaschoice. Pamela is the author of the song "Until it All" performed by Katherine on this site, as well as numerous other original compositions.
