Dead Letters were formed from the wreckage of award-winning Philadelphia pop/rock outfit The Michael Chance Band. When Michael hit a songwriting wall and frankly lost his mojo, he dropped out of the scene for a while and focused on writing and listening and growing. Eventually, an edgier, deeper, sometimes darker version of the songwriter was born. New musicians, tied too deeply into the creative process to be termed a backing band, cast their lot in with him, and something new happened.
Dead Letters runs the gauntlet of influences, drawing from vintage rock and soul music, world folk, and indie releases from around the world. The common thread is the story. Every song tells a story, and the story is the heart of everything Michael and the band are trying to say.
That's it. That's the big secret, the gamble, the sound and fury and fear. The story, written and cast out into the world with no return address. The Dead Letters.
