Paula Nelson was born in October of 1969 in Houston TX, into a family of music and entertainment. She started playing piano and singing at the age of seven. She drew early influences from singers like Jesse Colter and Rita Coolidge, whose bluesy, supple vocal style provided one of Paula's earliest templates as she found her own voice.
Throughout her teen and early adult years, she was heavily influenced by the presence of the music royalty in which she was surrounded. Waylon, Leon Russell, Kris Kristofferson, Mickey Newberry, and of course her talented father, just to name a few.
Over the years, Paula has surrounded herself with some of the finest talent that can be found in Austin Texas, working together to craft and hone her well written songs to studio and live perfection. Her current band, which have been a part of that core group for the last decade, is a powerhouse during her live sets.
Paula and her current band have been playing together since the summer of 2004.
"The chemistry between me and this band is magic, both on stage and off. I consider them both my friends and my family, and I feel truly blessed to be in the company of these amazing musicians"
The new record, titled "Under The Influence", is finished and their taking it on the road. "Under The Influence" gets it's name from the fact that it's a recording of covers from songs and artists that were a big influence on Paula while growing up in a very musical family.
Texas Monthly has calls her voice 'torchy,' and the Los Angeles Times praised, 'There's no missing the unforced power of Paula's singing.'
