Russ Smith spent his youth playing piano and violin while spinning his parent's vinyl and lip syncing with his buddies to the Monkees. In the mid-eighties, he started playing guitar and singing (and getting his ass kicked) at the open mic scene around Boston. Over time, his travels and tastes drew him to roots and Americana music of the mountains. After lead vocal and guitar stints with The Salty Dogs and Stormy Creek, he found his calling with the ‘doghouse’ bass viol. Russ is a regular with Two Bit Franks, Little Jane & The Pistol Whips and most recently The Two Tracks. Russ is called on regularly for live performances and session work and released his first solo album in 2009 called The Closest Thing (I Have). He now finds himself returning back to his guitar and songwriting roots this year and has a bunch of new songs to let loose on the world.
