By The Throat is a hardcore punk rock outfit formed in early 2010 in Boston, MA by a group of friends who spent the former decade plus playing with & in each other’s bands and hanging around the area’s many clubs, halls & basements. The 4 found that they had a common desire to play short, fast blasts of aggression as their favorites had done in the past and decided to form By The Throat. The band consists of Sean “The Muscle” (ex-Dimwits) on guitar, Chris Brat (Acrobrats, Blood Vessels, Spoilers) on bass, Chris Dimwit (ex-Dimwits) on drums and Niff (Blood Vessels, Buried In Leather) on vocals and guitar.
In true DIY spirit, the band self-recorded & released their debut vinyl 7" EP titled One Good Night in fall of 2010, immediately followed by shows throughout New England & NYC with the likes of Murphy’s Law, The Boardlords, and local legends The F.U.’s over the next 3 seasons, while the band kept cranking out new songs along the way, with a pause last spring to lay some of them down on tape, now to be released as “Riders of Boards.”
The Big Takeover magazine called the debut “that good old hardcore, the kind that had that manic beat that drove you nuts, but was melodic enough to stick in your head after the song was over. This is the stuff of Moving Targets, of Government Issue, of None of the Above, of early Black Flag, The Descendents and Battalion of Saints. It’s just damn good hardcore the way it should be – fast, ferocious and fun. The riffs are memorable, the leads are reminiscent of The Damned in their Machine Gun Etiquette phase”… “I really couldn’t ask for more and I don’t. I know better.”
By The Throat will be releasing the “Riders of Boards” EP on Saturday, October 8th @ an all ages matinee show at Church in Boston. The EP was once again self-recorded at Black Mark Studios with Niff at the helm, and mastered at New Alliance East By Nick Z & Rob G. Not content to be another band that only plays their hometown, the band plans to play a few shows locally while focusing on shows around New England and down the East Coast over the coming months, with another vinyl EP slated for release in December. More details on that one later…
