Davy Ray's songs are all written from Heart break or Heart felt experiences. When He's not singing about someone breaking his heart, he's singing about his family ,or some weird psychodlic trip, or some Shark Squid Hybrid. He's one of those Southern songwriters that breezes through many genres without ever forgettng his roots. His faher is a blue collar union Sheet Metal Worker and his mom is always working odd jobs to make the ends meet. Although Davy didn't always listen to his parents, he has managed to take some of the values they've ingrained in him, with him along the way from his soul searching that has lead him from Lebanon Tn., to Murfreesboro to Nashville, and finally to Memphis where he has resided for the past 10 years. Davy began studying The Classical Guitar at age 20, at Middle Tennessee State University. Being young and letting his heart get th best of him, Davy Moved to Memphis after a bad break-up. The story goes that he received a letter from his buddy in Memphis, saying that he should move out of the college town of Murfreesboro and move to a real town like the birthplace of Roc'n'Roll.he showed up on a snowy night in Mdtown memphis and kncked on his buddy's door. This was before cell phones and his frienddidn't own a home phone. His croney was in disbelief that Davy had shown up at his doorstep with whatever posessions he could fit in a little Ford Ranger. Davy's response was,"You told me I ought to move here." His buddy explained that he meant for him to save up, find a place, and have a job lined up. That Davy Ray is some character. Davy has always been known for his spontaneity. In Memphis Davy has finished his Bachelors of Music degree at the university of Memphis. Along the way, just to gain his father's respect, Davy has topped out as an Iron Worker Journeyman in Local Union 167. He has since determined that his hands can be used for other less dangerous endeavours.

Davy Ray has gained the respect of many of his piers, musicians, non musicians, and even his enemies. He plays frequently in various venues across Memphis so coe out, bring a date, and be entertained.
