Talk about a band like Vanity is not easy.because of,the name that suggests a preference for the form rather than the substance, the origin of the components extremely varied and a sound with great immediacy and impact, but elusive and hard to classify.
N, the Singer, originally from Gaza (Palestine) moved to Italy, always undergoes the charm of everything that is dark, like esotericism and some obscure excerptions of the European culture.
the Bass player F, Helvetic, severe and austere, reflects in the way he plays, his way of being,
P and T respectively guitar and drum, live a long time away from the blunders of modernity in a small town on the Tuscan hills.
It all happens in a flash, there is empathy between them and in a short time they start to compose music.
The album was recorded in complete isolation between December 2011 and February 2012 under the supervision of the producer Lorenzo Montanà (Tying Tiffany, TTL).
They play rock,an hybrid rock (they prefer the classic song form), with a retro style but at the same time post-modern:is not wave, is not metal, is not indie, but yet all these things together.
In their songs, in fact, we find echoes of Gothic Rock, Post-Punk, Doom, Black Metal and Electronics.
The result is not a shapeless mix of sounds, but rather the process of merge togheter these genres in an original paradigm, developed through the style, the imagination and the sensibility of the band.
The voice, the afterlife choirs and the guitars, sometimes distant and muffled and sometimes brazen, are the distinctive elements that characterize the sound of Vanity.
Pervaded by a ruthless romance,by extreme melodies and a crude and dark melodrama, there's definitely something in the music of Vanity that, instinctively and without compromise, repels or attracts
Vanity is one of those bands that push the listener to have a love/hate feeling that can be inevitably only one of the two.
Vanity interprets the classic dichotomy between form and substance, suspended between grace and disgrace.
The album and the lyrics are featured from a never published novel of N, "Occult You", which became the album title.
A private tragedy and drama that blends not only love (the central theme of the album), but also loneliness, anguish, the inevitability of fate and incommunicability.
At the center of the work a war hero, an Ossianic warrior , which is fighting for himself and for the lost love between melancholic and burial landscapes
The first video"Under Black Ice" from the upcoming album "Occult You" is a Gothic rewriting of the myth of Narcissus.
