Filmore Drive is a five-piece rock band from Marianna, Florida.
The group began as a collaboration between singer Matt Robarge and guitarist Stuart Gamble. The two began writing together and brought artistic influences of all rock genres to the table. After a few writing sessions, the potential of their collaborative efforts became apparent. This collaboration soon became known as Filmore Drive, whose namesake is a tribute to the street where the band meets to practice each week.
Early on, various guitarists, bassists and drummers came and went. However, the group became more solidified with the addition of drummer Rob Drown, who brought a powerful and authoritative groove to the band’s sound. Finally, the addition of bassist Nick Conrad and guitarist Christian Kay, who had gone from being longtime friends and supporters of the band to proactive members, cemented the band’s current lineup.
The sound of Filmore Drive revolves around the emotions and internal thought processes of the band’s writers. Their sound ranges from aggressive and dirty to surreal and melancholy. The lyrical themes explored in the group’s songs are easily identifiable, yet provide unique insight into the group’s life experiences and past struggles.
Attending a Filmore Drive performance is an intense experience, in which the audience and band become connected. More haunting songs such as “Baker Act” and “Checkmate” mesmerize, while heavy-hitters such as “The Judge” and “I Don’t Need You” energize. It is through these high-energy performances that Filmore Drive continues to build its fan-base one show at a time.
