We're 2 musicians who comprise part of contra dance bands Set Americain, Gigue-a-Bit and the Pan Celtic Players as well as other bands like Tenpenny Bit and the Saratoga Pan Celtic Sessioneers. Vonnie Estes on keyboard (myself) and John Guay on hammered dulcimer (my husband) have been honored to play dances and concerts with fiddlers like David Kaynor, Pascal Gemme, Pete Sutherland, Oliver Scanlon, Jill Newton, Laurie Indenbaum, Lausanne Allen, Barbara Lubell, Patty Rutins, Colin McCoy, Malcolm Sanders, Franklin Heyburn, Yannig Tanguy and Bernd Neumann plus multi-instrumentalists like Steve Fry, Maurice Mercier, Joel Rosenberger and Charles Fisher. With Steve and Betsy Fry, Barbara Lubell and Maurice Mercier we are known as Set Americain and play mainly Quebecois tunes for dances. As Tenpenny Bit we are joined by fiddler Nancy Bakemeier and bodhranist Barbara Naple on Celtic tunes. With Patty Rutins playing fiddle we appear as Gigue-a-Bit. We also usually session at the Parting Glass Pub in Saratoga Springs, NY each Wednesday (Saratoga Pan-Celtic Open Session) and 3 out of 4 Thursday evenings each month (a 5 piece combination of ourselves with either Barbara Naple on bodhran or Matt Young on vocals/bodhran, Joel Rosenberger on banjo/piano accordion, Nancy Bakemeier on fiddle and/or Maurice Mercier on accordeons/Cajun tie/feet) except during flat track season. John is also the organizer of the Saratoga Sunday Contra Parties generally held each 2nd Sunday of the month from October-April (a DanceFlurry Organization Sponsored event) at the Saratoga Adult and Senior Center. Members of the Pan Celtic Players provide the music for that series. Vonnie also serves as the primary pianist for the Heartsease English country dance band based in Troy, NY. We'll both also session wherever else people will let us play :-)
