Altermatum is a rock band based in Knoxville, Tennessee, that formed with one goal in mind, to create genuine music that was not confined by the walls of genre labels. Although grounded with the roots of traditional alternative rock, their sound is meticulously woven with elements from numerous other genres and styles.
Their first single, "Slip Away", released in late February 2012, has quickly gained regular radio play on Knoxville's local rock station, 94.3 the X, as well as a local online radio station, Deviants Underground Radio. Both the band and fans alike are anticipating the release of their debut full length album in early 2013, after continued show performance throughout the greater Knoxville area.
Altermatum was originally founded by rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist, Bryan Dockery, in 2008, with a vision of forming a band that was not hindered by any specific genre and freely able to explore everything that music had to offer. In late 2011, lead guitarist Aaron Hill joined forces with Dockery, who added his own song writing talents, as well as his distinctly dissonant lead guitar style. After a few months, the duo recruited Shawn Pepper on bass and later Shawn Janow on drums. Having both come from primarily metal backgrounds, Pepper and Janow completed the quartet with the steady driving power that characterizes Altermatum's rhythm section.
Although the group has only been together for a mere three months (at the time of this writing), Altermatum has made phenomenal impact on the local rock scene. They have appeared and performed as a featured artist on 94.3's "Local X with Oz", as well as performed at one of the biggest local rock festivals in East Tennessee, Wallypalooza. However, they have shown no signs of slowing down, as they anticipate branching out from Knoxville and begin establishing regional headway in early June, before they re-visit the studio to record their debut album in November, 2012.
