Goat Leaf / Bio

Goat Leaf love to play !

Set up the stage, rev the mighty atomic engine of their Heavy Groove Vehicle and let loose like four sonic dogs of rock ‘n’ roll.

But just who or what are Goat Leaf ?

They are master builders of volume; their songs are carved from stone and born in the dark heart of South Yorkshire, yet speak the universal language of space, speed, love and murder.

Their debut album Colorscene , released in spring 2011 gained some very favourable reviews and a strong following across the Uk and further afield with reviews in Germany , France and Spain.

The band has always been at home up on the stage and with this release the boys gigged hard across the Uk building on their growing following with headline and support slots. Most notably opening for Corrosion of Conformity in April 2011. The gigs came thick and fast with the band constantly writing new material on the road and in between shows.

As the band wrote more material their live shows changed dramatically with more and more songs being added and songs from their debut being dropped in favour of newer material. It became very apparent to the band that they needed to record these new songs. Initial plans were to record a stop gap EP but as the band starting demoing the new material it was obvious to everyone involved that the quality of the songs had moved up a gear and what they were really looking at was album number 2.

With so many shows already booked until the end of the year it was agreed they would once again record locally at Orion Studios so they could get the basic tracks down , still fulfil their gigging commitments and be able to drop back into the studio when needed. On Friday 13th April 2012 Goat Leaf began the recording process. Songs like " Aint Got Time To Bleed " " Love Under Will " and the epic " Truth be Told " took on a life of their own once the tape was running . The boys were one song short for the album and wrote " Herr H Atom " in the studio. This is the only Goat Leaf song that hasn't been played live before being recorded.

There was a growing confidence in these songs and the band could feel it. Behind the scenes there was more and more interest in the name Goat Leaf. The boys continued to play some killer shows , their new found confidence growing, knowing what they had created in the studio taking the band to another level.

Things were going so well at this point a decision was made to have the album mixed & Mastered at another studio . Enter Jaime Gomez Arellano , renowned for his work on Ghost's " Opus Eponymous " . A deal was stuck and Jaime agreed to mix and master the album at Orgone Studios , London. The first song Jaime mixed was " Aint Got to Bleed " and after only listening to it for the first 30 seconds the band knew this was probably the best decision they had ever made. Jaime had captured everything about Goat Leaf that makes them the band they are.

In December 2012 , Goat Leaf signed a worldwide distribution deal with Cargo Records London.

On 28th January 2013 album number 2 was released.

Entitled A Lack of Oxygen - Tales of Crashing Satellites and featuring 10 news songs the reviews were fantastic from the word go. This time the band was featured in Classic Rock , Metal Hammer , Power Play to name a few.

In April 2013 the band headed out on the road with London rockers Zodiac & Black for a joint headline tour. Taking in Nottingham , Edinburgh , Sheffield , Wales and London. All of the shows were fantastic , Sheffield and London were both close to capacity.

Playing summer festivals through June and July the boys turned there attention to Europe. With a headline show in Amsterdam and a special guests slot at the 3rd annual Del.Rock festival in Belgium in August . September 2013 saw Goat Leaf head to Spain for their first shows there and their most successful tour to date. Headlining every night the band played Barcelona , Zaragoza and Madrid. The reaction from the crowds every night was fantastic and left the boys open mouthed and hungry for more.

2014 saw the band still out promoting their 2nd album while writing and recording new material . The band have gigged consistently around the Uk with a growing following in London and 2 sell out shows at Sheffield's Corporation. July saw the band winning the Bloodstock Metal 2 The Masses campaign and saw them open the Friday of this years festival. Playing to a packed tent and winning over many new fans. In October the band hooked up with Sweden's Jeremy Irons & The Ratgang Malibus and New york legends Warrior Soul along for a batch of sold out London shows. The band closed off this very successful year with a co headlining tour around the UK with Sweden’s Stonewall Noise Orchestra culminating with a breath taking headline slot at the inaugural Winter Rocks Festival in Sheffield.

2015 sees the band as busy as ever, having already played sold out shows in London and Sheffield in February . Goat Leaf will release a limited edition 4 track EP entitled ‘ Dead In This Universe ‘ to coincide with their return visit to Spain in March. Festival lots are being booked for the summer including the Red Sun Festival in Wales and support slots with Karma to Burn. With more songs already written and the recording process ongoing , expect a new UK release from the band very soon!
