Playboi Short / Bio

Playboi Short, one half of Lost Tribe, was born Alex Mamatuki. Now 26 years old, he has been rapping since he was in middle school, at the age of 13. He was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he started by freestyling with friends and battling older kids around the city. He formed the rap group Lost Tribe after the original crew broke off and formed 2 different crews(Lost Tribe and D.A.L.). His additions to the crew were Eddie Monster and King George from the Vega Crew which Eddie turned into Short's rhyming partner and King George fitted perfect for the manager position as well as being an emcee also. His influences go from mainstream acts like Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Jay-Z, E-40, Tupac to underground sounds of Jurassic 5, Beastie Boys, Big Boi, Lupe Fiasco and other pioneers in the game. Lost Tribe became a monument in Salt Lake so fast at a young age, with doing over 50 shows a year, coming out with mixtape after mixtape, they decided to take a break from recording the album for personal reasons. Lost Tribe currently taking a break, the half Tongan, quarter Spanish and German emcee decided to keep going and take the leap into the industry as a solo artist. His new chapter is with Capital Syndicate Entertainment(CSE) as his management group and after coming out with his first solo project ''It's A New Day'' in October 2010, he is set to release his second project ''Follow My Lead'' summer of 2011 as well as his debut album ''A Picture On A Canvas'' by 4th quarter 2011. Since 2010, he has shared the stage with acts like Tyga, WC, Twista, Mo' Thug Family, Mistah Fab, Slim Thug, Savage, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Chino XL, Joell Ortiz, Yukmouth and other industry acts! He has done charity events, campus events for students, MMA events, Heavy Metal mash ups, intimate acoustic shows and has done huge arena shows. He has been on radio freestyling at colleges, has had his music played 90.9 KRCL and U92 which both are the local hip hop stations, not to mention the new airwave of the internet radios. He prefers live band for performances because of his appreciation for the live instruments. With hundreds of shows and songs under his belt, he is set to make a name for himself and get the recognition that Lost Tribe has been getting since 2003. Currently working on becoming CEO of his own entertainment company No Gravity, he is also starting his own charity foundation Reach For The Stars. He will be able create opportunities for the community while using his voice and influence to motivate. Stay tuned because it is only going up hill from here!
