““I think I have come up with an indie-folk-rock style that lyrically and vocally is more sophisticated than my first album—but I like to mix things up for the live show and really bring a variety for the audience,” Gilbert said in a recent interview with Patch. Drawing comparisons to Michelle Branch and often referred to as a female Bob Dylan, Gilbert’s music conveys her experience of a sometimes painful upbringing, with the poetic perspective of feminine intuition. Gilbert’s song, "Alive," has been No. 1 on the South Bay’s pop charts on ReverbNation.com for the last month, and she is about to take her music nationwide.”

"The Songs of Ben Laney" tribute concert brings together musicians he stood side by side with on stage or in the studio as well as his family to sing his songs. The event follows the completion of his second album, "Here in These Hills," produced by fellow musicians and friends Aprylle Gilbert and Jim Lewin. Six years in the making, the album began as a duo project with Gilbert, who had long admired Laney's work. The two worked together since the 1990s, performing at local venues such as Don Quixote's, before it was known as an international music hall. As the album got closer to completion, Laney's health began to decline. He died in June after struggling with medical problems. "I just want to give him credit for helping to shape me as an artist," Gilbert said. "When I set off on my first tour this spring I will be taking his CDs with me and singing his songs. His music will go with me wherever I go."
