Andrew Howes / Press

“A master of krautrock ,Andrew Howes, based in Dewsbury, England, presenst “Gubernator” a new album that melts guitar, bass, keyboards, percussion, loops and sounds into a wonderful psychedelic journey! If you enjoy bands like Amon Düül, Kraan, Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Tempel, Klaus Schulze or the last The Blutharsch works, taste “Gubernator”, which brings you straight back to the end of the 60's and into the 70's! Love this peaceful release with a deep social (critism) note! Raphael Feldmann - Kultureterrorismus”

“In the guise of Kalistongue, Andrew Howes has put together An Habitual Condition, a free release of tracks he has released on the Classwar Karaoke surveys. Howes has had work appear on CJC/Leep (Colin Johnco Records), Electronic Musik and SuRRism Phonoethics. Although An Habitual Condition exists in the closed culture side of the world, it can't be considered a B-side extended play release, there’s nothing sub-prime about this work. The seven tracks that were released over a two-year period are collages of heavily processed sounds, chopped vocals and some exceptional off-centered editing. - Acts Of Silence - ”

“With his approach varying from alarming sonic-arrangements through compelling meditational electro-funk workouts to soft and subtle glistening tracks with an insistant 'pull forwards'... Andrew Howes is quite definitely one of the leading exponents of the contemporary experimental music scene. Whilst experimental music is not for everyone, the niche that it occupies is significant in that it is the sort of niche that the most noteworthy future artists tend to cite as being influential in preference to more obvious or famous artists that are a safe bet, but which rarely point to anything with unique character. And it is this character that crackles and fizzes through Andrew Howes's work as I listen to it right now, lending it both the originality that is so seldom found among the major labels and also the lusciously sensational sonic-character that transports me so deliciously through the equally luscious headspace that I currently occupy. ”

Cellar Tapes

"A solo record by Andrew Howes, Carrion hors d’oeuvres (LEEP/CJC JOHNC0032), finds your man Howes working hard as a one-man avant rock band playing bass, drums, keyboards, guitars and electronics. These seven klanking instrumentals, in places somewhat reminiscent of Can or Neu!, feel as though they would have felt right at home if released in the 1990s on Sonic Boom’s Space Age Recordings label; although Howes doesn’t make quite the same fetish out of his synthesisers, which here simply provide one more instrumental colour. A hand made cover depicts a threatening crossword grid in 3-D, looming over a park".

The Sound Projector

“Set” – a new work from Andrew Howes is available for free download on Surrism Phonoethics. A fine mixture of jazz, rock and experimental guitar sounds build up a fascinating sound collage, which brings a wonderfull inner cinema. Fans of the music of Frank Zappa or Buckethead will love this album – Taste it! ”

Colin Johnco - CJC / LEEP records

“Always atypical, always strange, always deep and always GOOD!. ”
