Abbey Gardner is a vibrant and talented singer/songwriter and musician. Having listened to a wide range of music, Abbey's music style is always evolving, but could be best described as alternative indie pop.
Abbey began learning piano at five years of age, and soon found her talent and passion for songwriting and performing. She took up the guitar at the age of twelve, which is when Abbey's love of writing contemporary songs thrived.
Although young, Abbey has quickly gained vast experience performing live in venues such as restaurants, cafe's, pubs, clubs weddings and private functions. She has performed at many charity events, and festivals such as the Sydney Country Music Festival, and also performs her own show at the Sydney Royal Easter Show each year.
Abbey has written a large repertoire of original songs - and after gaining experience in live performance and recording, she began entering songwriting competitions.
The results speak for themselves, with numerous successes - the first, winning pop/rock song of the year in Songsalive Australia's 2012 national songwriting competition.
In 2012, 2013 and 2015, Abbey's songs have placed in the Australian Children's Music Foundation national songwriting competition.
At the tender age of 14, Abbey was named as a top five finalist in her category for the 2013 Australian Independent Music Awards (Music Oz), and also reached the top twelve in the Sony Breaking Ground Battle of the Bands competition 2013 .
Abbey achieved 1st place in the 2014 and 2015 Tamworth Songwriters Association national songwriting competition (junior category).
As Abbey has continued writing and performing, her songs have taken on a depth of maturity way beyond her years. In 2016, Abbey was named "Songwriter of the Year" in the Songsalive Australia national songwriting awards, where she also took out "Pop Song of the Year", "Rock Song of the Year", "Youth Songwriter of the Year" and the "Parramatta Prize" (a live final for entrants from greater western Sydney).
Her accolades continued in April this year, when Abbey took to the stage at the YOUTHROCK 2016 finals, coming in 2nd place with her vibrant solo performance - a large feat as the only soloist competing against 40 young bands in the largest unsigned band competition in NSW. She skilfully used a loop machine to build rhythm and layer harmony along with her energy and strong stage presence, ensuring Abbey’s performance was riveting from beginning to end.
Abbey's love of performing and sharing her music with others keeps her motivated to continue writing. Look out for Abbey's recently released debut EP "Shadows After 3”.
