Aaron L Myers II / Press

“Not every vocalist has the surplus of personality that Aaron Myers evinces. It’s not an essential ingredient of a jazz singer’s toolkit, mind you, but it is an enormous asset. In Myers’s case, for one, it supplements his tremendous, slightly gravelly voice and expert soulful delivery—not to mention his glorious swing—to make him an inimitable, unmistakable presense on the bandstand. He likes to set his performances into the groove, giving a kick even to the ballads he works with. That is another way of saying that Myers gives a lively concert, of course—one might even say “rollicking.””

“This year as part of the Jazz In The 'Hood artist showcase, none other than Aaron Myers performed songs from his debut album "Leo Rising" to a packed house at the Black Fox Lounge where he is also a resident artist.”

“Aaron Myers is one of those rare, spiritual people that straddle two totally but not necessarily unfamiliar walks of life between music and politics.”

“The debut release, "Leo Rising", recorded at Avatar Studios (Formerly The Power Station), "deals with the personal struggles of how to love myself and others", states Myers. "It also deals with how to cope with outside circumstances; which oftentimes influence how you love yourself and others".”

“Myers anticipates working on projects like creating community choirs and soliciting scholarship money from colleges for students who participate in the church’s music programs. “Our pastors are very interested in stepping out of the box, and even doing some jazz brunches as well,” he says. “To put it frankly, I am extremely excited about this position!””
