Tom Schena / Press

“On Saturday night, September 7th, Tom Schena's new band, Shades of Rust, released their live album "The Break Neck Sessions" to a packed audience at The Music Hall Loft in Portsmouth, New Hampshire to a nearly sold out crowd that simply would not leave the venue! It was a great night at the listening room, beginning with Tom Schena doing a short acoustic set, merging with the band to play the entire album and then finishing off a final EP set of new material. The crowd was so engaged, that everyone returned from the mid break to listen to the new songs that the band has been working on.”

“Tom Schena is an enigma. The 25-year-old singer/songwriter has really limited his public appearances. But when you see him — when you hear him, you don't forget. The voice he boasts is head-turning. This voice sits somewhere in the middle (sonically) of Kris Kristofferson and Jason Ross (Seven Mary Three). Schena has been hiding out for quite some time, but it seems a point has been reached where he escapes, jumps up on stage at the Music Hall Loft and introduces his new band, Shades of Rust, to the world (starting with the Seacoast). Shades of Rust is set to release their debut recording — "The Break Neck Sessions," recorded live in the studio at 1130ft only a few short months ago in front of a live studio audience. Schena (vocals, acoustic guitar) has enlisted Shane Mountain (bass), Alexx Morrison (drums), and six-string rock stalwart Mark Edgerly (lead guitar) to flesh out his otherwise stripped down acoustic tunes. The result is thunderous. ...more”

"There are a couple of people on the bill that I've only just checked out due to this event, and I'm excited to see them perform for the first time. Particularly Tom Schena. His music sounds pretty cool... much in the vein of Jeffrey Foucault."

"His voice is alluring and deep and his set was entirely original songs, obviously well rehearsed with strong musicianship evident on all players' parts. The drummer at times improvised by literally playing the box he was sitting on -- to good effect."

“Tom Schena dedicates one of his songs "A Little Help" for a local family to raise money from digital download donations.”
