ThinkNoThink / Press

“Psychedelic noise outfit ThinkNoThink continues making a name for itself thrashing and belting on Red River. Forged in the now-boarded up confines of Club de Ville, and possibly the final result of the community of musicians who loitered there, they exhibit an urgency derived from singer John Dowey. Aesthetically, Dowey’s a spot-on mix between Jimi Hendrix drummer Mitch Mitchell and Thurston Moore, with an electrified red ‘fro and an olive drab army jacket always on. When he sings, a piercing tone reminiscent of the Mars Volta’s Cedric Bixler-Zavala comes careening out.”

“Maybe the laments over rock’s alleged deterioration are more fleeting than common. Perhaps it’s prolonged exposure to occasional embittered Facebook soapbox rants. But the Austin Music Minute maven is here to tell you: Rock ‘n’ roll ain’t dead. And here’s ThinkNoThink to push you back into the loop – in case you’re out of it. The local power trio wields fiery, twisted, colossal-amped jams that take Sonic Youth, The Seeds, and maybe The Jesus and Mary Chain along for the ride, with The Electric Prunes crammed in the passenger seat. There’s no better way to get the party started than with ribcage-rattling rock, all droney, fuzzed up and searing the eardrums. Hello, ThinkNoThink. Heard you were bringing some rock ‘n’ roll salvation. Can I get a witness? -Laurie Gallardo, KUTX, Austin Minute”

“ For those who fear the demise of rock n roll, it is time to rejoice ThinkNoThink your rock n roll savior has arrived. Weaving old school American rock with layers of sick fuzz, and drone. Front man John Dowey has a voice from another dimension, and channels demons through his guitar. He is able to send his words up your spine, and into your soul. This power trio also features Henry F. White on bass, and Nick Bukowski on drums, providing a heavy unrelenting backbone to their sound. This is the band you live for, this is the band you dreamed about, listen and prepare for rock n roll salvation. Boo Bo Records ”
