“Local hip-hop and R&B group Island Trybe is trying to end a sad year on a positive note beginning with ‘Nesian Fest, which starts at 8 p.m. Saturday at Hell’s Kitchen. This event is basically a showcase of Pacific Islanders active in the local hip, R&B and reggae scenes. “’Nesian” is just shorthand for some of the regions local Islanders hail from - Polynesia, Micronesia and Melanesia. “The whole ‘Nesian Fest really is just a coming together of all that,” But it’s also an emotional time for Island Trybe, a group that has been easing back into performing after the deaths of two band members this summer. “It was very hard. It was torturous,” recalled Lizama. “We’re just getting back to it. We owe it to these guys to just keep pushing ”
