Artist:- J B Clare, aka 21st Century Pianist.
John Bates Clare has been playing the piano since the age of eight. His parents and also a friend’s father encouraged him to learn to play and a life long adventure in music began………
John's teacher entered her students for four major competitions each year at Bath, Chipping Norton, Oxford and Wantage. This, together with examination work, led to a good grounding in technique. The highlight was winning the Ivy Wilcox Cup performing a piano trio in 1987.
While still at school, John was approached by the local Church (St John's Church, Carterton) to play the Organ. At fourteen years old this was his first paid job. John was possibly one of the youngest Church Organists in the United Kingdom.
John's interest in popular music also started as a teenager. He heard artists like Richard Clayderman and Jean Michel Jarre playing and knew that these were avenues he wished to explore as a performer.
Having released five albums of cover tunes, ‘By the Moonlight’ is an album with a collection of two original compositions and instrumental improvisations.
John says “I take inspiration from many avenues in life, from successful people to sporting achievements. One track is titled ‘Theme for Serena’ and is dedicated to the tennis player Serena Williams – I hope she will be able to listen to this one day.”.
The other tracks include ‘By the Moonlight’, ‘The Man Jazzin’ in the Moon’ and ‘Moonlight Goblins’ which is a romantic trilogy about finding the right connection with a person and sharing those special moments with them.
The ‘By the Moonlight’ main theme and title of the album is a five instrument multi track recording partly inspired by Mike Oldfield's ‘Tubular Bells’.
“I wanted to do something different; it was a challenge to record the different instruments using keyboards and digital pianos. I played each instrument myself and mixed the tracks in my home recording studio - the aim is to hopefully have individual musicians do a live performance in the not too distant future.”.
John works as a Piano Teacher and Piano Tuner based in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, United Kingdom and owns his own Internet Radio Station – Radio Johnbc.com.
