Hailing from Toledo, the City of Glass, is perfectly befitting for an 18 year-old singer with a voice as clear as a champagne flute. Zuri, the charming new sweetheart of r&b, is known locally for her refreshing vibe and melodious, soprano-alto range; perhaps the most unique factor of Zuris music is her ability to twist fresh, catchy melodies with lyrics that honestly address the issues of young women everywhere. "I want to be the voice for girls today. Ive had so many girls come up to me and tell me how much they relate to a message in one of my songs. My music addresses the good and the bad of love and life from a young womans standpoint." What makes her different? Straight forward and sincere, her music has a message. It's catchy, pure r&b tinged w/popular appeal and she gives lyrical depth. In the upbeat song "Lady", with its Motown feel, Zuri croons a message of self-respect for young ladies everywhere asking, "Can you tell me what I gotta do to get the respect I deserve?...You know youve really got your nerve, cause youre the first to fight over your mama, but call your girl outta her name, boy its a shame, hypocrisy your middle name, I aint got time for those games..." A talent Zuri is most proud of is her ability to write songs- penning the lyrics and producing all of the tracks on her first demo, and doing the same now with her newest; at the finals of an Ohio state-wide writing competition for young writers (Power of The Pen), she placed number 1 out of more than 2000 writers that initially began the competition. Her song "Thinkin About U" has gotten plenty of adds on c.d. mixes in the college scene, and was a top request at a local university radio station; and "Perfection" has struck an emotional chord with many female fans. The newest face on the r&b scene combines fresh dance choreography with her heartfelt lyrics, soulful music and hip-hop beats. Personally, Zuri refers to old Motown soul, and crooners like Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder, and Deniece Williams as providing some of her greatest musical inspiration. Zuri insists, "Music is my heart; performing is what I am determined to do with my life."
