Q: what kind of guitar equipment do you use? how do you get those wild sounds?--jack offenhauser
A: i play an alder body PRS with stock split-wired pickups, a 5-position rotary switch & wammy bar. it was hand made in '90. it is very bright & clean with a lot of tone, although the humbucker configurations are punchy with gibson-like bite. i avoid distortion pickups & valve amps, i play thru line 6 floor pod plus pedals into a line 6 spider 4 amp with shortboard pedals, all digital (i used a spider 3 on half of "magenta tangerine" though). i also have some vintage analog stomp boxes. there are a lot of amp simulations & effects in both the pedals & the amp, so the sounds i get are from the many possible combinations of guitar, effects & amp settings, which i program myself according to the needs of the song. i never mic the speakers, i always go stereo direct. i hope that's helpful.
