WEDNESDAY -- December 22, 2010 10pm DOOR NO COVER FREE ENTRY +21 ========== E-TRAIN returns from Los Angeles this wednesday to entertain with drummer Kenny Clark for an epic night of music starring DJ DEMCHUK, Mr. Robotic, Young General with the FiveSTAR band, Jason Gatz with Ashley Good plus Ronnie Bass, and The Nocturnal's MC Eric Sirota! Mr. Robotic "When dedication, creativity, and passion collide you get an explosion of artistic energy. It is in this alternate universe that you will find breakout artist Mr. Robotic. Mr. Robotic is truly dedicated to creating music that is more than a song, but an expression of art that resonates through your soul. Mr. Robotic is diligently and creatively mastering his craft, becoming a performer who prides himself on fun, creative music devoid of the typical profanity and lyrical content that characterizes urban music today. Creating his own genre of music- rap with a twist of pop and a dash of hip-hop has allowed him to appeal to a varied audience, Mr. Robotic is blazing a path that will be hard to follow. As a music business student at Chicago’s Columbia College, Mr. Robotic learned the skills necessary to take his career to the next level. With the huge success of recent rappers Drake and Soulja Boy, guerilla marketing, internet media, social networking, and creative music licensing strategies have become the new platforms for national recognition. No stranger to non-traditional marketing, Mr. Robotic has taken the industry by storm. Mr. Robotic’s first two studio projects, Back To The Lyrics and Home Alone garnered over 20,000 downloads. Industry heavyweight The Source hailed Back To The Lyrics as 'a solid entrée from an artist with tremendous potential.' He has been featured on hundreds of websites including Russell Simmons’ GlobalGrind, HipHopGame, HipHopDX, NahRight, AllHipHop, and DJBooth. On Myspace Mr. Robotic has amassed nearly 800,000 song plays and over 300,000 page views. Between Facebook, Twitter and Myspace Mr. Robotic has nearly 25,000 fans/friends What gives Mr. Robotic the edge over his competition is his versatility as an artist. Alisha Davis of ASCAP says of Mr. Robotic, "Finally an artist who was built to break down those film and television barriers for urban music on Network TV and video games”. His music spans multiple genres and speaks to the music lover in everyone. According to HipHopDx, “His playful rhymes and his electronic, dance-ready beats are built for clubs, parties, raves, car trunks, and the like […]. That said, the kid makes enjoyable music”. Mr. Robotic has had songs featured on The CW's The Beautiful Life, MTV (Jersey Shore, Taking the Stage,The Hills) ESPN, Stomp the yard 2 and the theme song for The E! special "Kiss and Tell: the other woman speaks" just to name a few. The creators of coconut inspired sports drink "Greater Than" has event tapped Mr.Robotic to come up with the theme for their brand. He has had the honor of being featured as the Artist Of The Month on the #1 music licensing website MusicDealers.com, as well as ASCAP Playback Artist of the Week. Mr. Robotic has worked with some of the music industry’s brightest rising stars, Chuck Inglish (Cool Kids), Christian Rich, and Cory Bold (produced for Letoya Luckett and Keri Hilson among others). Always listening to his music with the ear of a fan, Mr. Robotic strives to make the music people want to hear. His lyrical seduction has indeed impressed not only his fans, but the industry, which are all eyes and ears on what is next. John Williamson, Senior Vice President of MusicDealers says of Mr. Robotic, “"After 10+ years in the music game, witnessing and being part of every possible scenario, seeing a young guy with as much focus as Mr. Robotic is truly inspiring and makes me believe the new generation of artists still have hope”. *** The FiveSTAR Band *** Greg Fundis on drums Jeff Liebovich on Keys Matt Longbons on bass Marcus Rezak on guitar Young General on vocals Letter L on production Musical instruments and the sounds they create possess the power to unify. A man strums his guitar in the subway station, and the soon-to-be rail riders turn towards him, listening. Fans at a concert speak to each other in line and in their seats, strangers Monday through Friday but friends tonight. Music also brings musicians together. In the past three decades, we saw cross-genre co-ops like Paul Simon and Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Aerosmith and Run-DMC, Wu-Tang and Rage, Santana and Matchbox 20, Eminem and Elton John, Jay-Z and Linkin Park, Nelly and Tim McGraw. Why these pairings so often involve hip-hop artists is anybody’s guess. Mine would be this: hip-hop has always pulled from other genres in its sampling production, so MCs and producers are, perhaps, more naturally open to sounds outside their norm. There is also the natural pull for any artist to reach a new audience, to challenge her or himself in a new genre or a new medium, and it was that pull that brought the members of FiveSTAR together. Minneapolis-turned-Chicago MC Young General was looking to front a band, while guitarist Marcus Rezak (heavily influenced by Boston’s hip-hop and urban funk scene), was looking to play live hip-hop shows. Through a mutual association with promoter Marvin Mentor, Rezak brought bassist Matt Longbons and drummer Greg Fundis to General. Keyboardist Jeff Liebovich (another mutual acquaintance of Rezak and Mentor) was brought on board, and faster than Steven Tyler or Reverend Run could say “Walk This Way,” FiveSTAR was born. General describes the band as “a combination of hip-hop, funk, and rock.” About the name, he says, “A lot of people ask why we decided to call the band FiveSTAR. There’s five members, each one a star in their own genre.” While Young General rocks hip-hop shows around Chicago, FiveSTAR’s four musicians are all grooving with other bands as well. Their collective passion and talent mixed with their disparate styles makes this Chicago quintet a collaboration of the truest nature. Whether in concert or in studio, each opportunity these five have to perform together serves as a reminder of everything we love about music.
