Philadelphia's public school system has reached a crisis that threatens the future of the present generation and those to come. Though the entire nation's economic climate has been bleak, it is troubling that our education system should bear the brunt of these hard times. The future is cemented by the development and nurturing of strong minds to further the improvement of human society with each new generation. If we strip our youth of this basic human right, we are effectively committing social suicide. It is time to act. We intend to contribute to the rejuvenation of Philadelphia's public school system by using our resources and projects to raise funds towards restoring and improving art programs. We have conceptualized an event called ArtHaus and wish to use it for such purposes. It an event that we've held in the past but now have the means to produce a monthly series with it and are tailoring it towards this charity cause. ArtHaus is an expo of various kinds of art presented by the Philadelphia based art collective and music label Psy-Fi Productions (or Psy.Fi). Psy.Fi has been active in Philadelphia since 2010, hosting art-forward electronic music events with the goal of entertaining the intellect as well as the senses. On November 2nd, we will begin ArtHaus as a monthly series at the Black Box Theatre at Underground Arts to be held on the first Saturday of evening. Underground Arts is located between 12th and 13th streets on Callowhill. Each event will feature three artists on display with the main artist creating an installation. There will also be a body painter, vendors, DJ's and a live band. --------------------------------------------------------------- FEATURING ART FROM: Michael Indorato [http://indorato.com/index.html] Michael Indorato is a cutting edge painter and illustrator whose work utilizes geometry in unique ways creating abstract forms of recognizable images. In his own words: “I've been pinting 18 years and publicly showing in New York City for the past 5. I'm always reaching to innovate my style and process while still preserving the undeniable INDORATO presence in my work. My creative philosophy is simple, each painting is a quest for Divine pattern and the endless cycle which has no beginning and has no end. To see my work is like going on a journey, sometimes gliding through rolling hills, others are more like riding a wild roller coaster. My goal is to allow the viewer to become the artist, to daydream, to fall into the work. Recently I designed a painting contraption which allows me to create while hovering above the canvas as I drip and spin paint in circular rhythms. This process is completely conducive to my style and philosophy and it's fun to watch!” This contraption of his will be present at ArtHaus along with some of his other works. Angela McQuillan [http://www.angela-mcquillan.com/] Angela McQuillan received a B.S. in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin in 2004 and a B.F.A. in Painting and Drawing from Tyler School of Art in 2011. Angela’s current body of work consists of mixed-media 2D and 3D works that focus on biomorphic abstraction and the visual language of living organisms. Her art practice as a whole is an study of various ways that art and science intersect and inform one another. Her ideas involve experiencing the living world with infinite curiosity and appreciation, while coming up with unique solutions to problems through artistic and scientific investigation. "My creations are not bound to any one type of medium, instead I explore different materials, textures and surfaces to express my own interpretation of the world around me. Through my scientific background I have gained a deep appreciation for biological forms and anatomical subjects. I have always found beauty in microscopic images and in cross-sectional explorations of bodies and plants... In my works, I explore how the subconscious mind creates associations and meaningful connections with nature through the manipulations of forms suggestive of the processes found in the living world. There is a certain degree of artificiality in my vibrant color palettes and use of manufactured materials. This level of artifice serves to provide an element of fantasy, or departure from what is tangible or real. These bizarre life forms cannot be classified in any scientific textbook, instead they are surreal dreamscapes derived from introspection and my own personal vision." Recently she has become increasingly interested in community outreach and development. Cohen Asher [http://thealienarchitect.blogspot.com/] Beneath Alien Architect/Cohen Asher, and even his internal dialogue/mental chatter, lies yet another confabulation as set forth by the occasional setting as to produce his either real or imagined sense of self and being within. Further more, this "sense of self and being within" as well as his "validation pivot points" are internalized by means of an external attribution via his self concept and avoidance of cognitive dissonance. And even further more, even the birth name given to this painter artist can at times feel like yet another social construction "straw man identity" as well. He graduated from Philadelphia, High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in 2004 with a, visual arts major. He is also an accomplished musician, dabbling in drum sets and percussion, vocals, keyboards, guitar, bass. In Philadelphia, he has performed at Festival Pier, The Electric Factory, TLA, Trocadero, North Star, Kung Fu Necktie, Silk City, Johnny Brenda's, Dobb's, and more. He has performed all over the country and even in Israel and has recorded a number of albums. Cohen Asher/Alien Architect recently exhibited at Stupid Easy Gallery, CIRCA1212, Sanctuary Wholistic Arts Center, 10th St. Laundromat, Gallery Bar in NY, PhilaMoca, Fire and Ice, Lee Gribben's. He was recently featured in NY's SNAX magazine, and has been featured in a number of other publications. LIVE/INTERACTIVE ART by New JAAG [https://www.facebook.com/BurlingtonArtistsGuild] New JAAG stands for New Jersey Alternative Artist Guild. Formerly named The Burlington Artists Guild, New JAAG is an exclusive club for local artists started by painter Marc Tous. They are based in Mount Holly, NJ. The guild's goal is to connect and bring together local artists of all media. They have a philosophy of support among artists and their goal is to bring art to the community. BODYPAINTING by Echo Endless [https://www.facebook.com/SSELDNEOHCE] Echo Endless is a prolific make up artist, costume designer, cosplay performer, jewelry designer, singer, and rapper. Well known for incredibly convincing portrayal of She-Hulk, she appears at many cons in the region as different characters from comics, television, and video games. She specializes in small details and realism in her costumes. VENDORS: Vanessa Baskin's jewelry art: “As an artist, I draw inspiration from the natural world. To me it has the most original designs and the most effective engineering, everything else is mimicry. I have a particular curiosity for the anomalies of nature and this has drawn me to observing and portraying what I see, in order to show others. I have illustrated and done work for the Mütter Museum and the College of Physicians in Philadelphia. Currently, I'm illustrating fossils at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. The jewelry I create is aesthetically repurposed remains of specimens that I collect as holistically as possible.” Kort Walsh's glass and jewelry art [http://www.etsy.com/shop/kortsglass]: Kort Walsh is glass artist from Philadelphia. His work has been recognized by the local arts community for the past five years. He has experience in a variety of mediums, but specializes in glass and metals. He has produced custom glass parts for laboratories and collectors around the world, teaches classes & conducts live demonstrations. Kort earned his Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Crafts from the Philadelphia University of the Arts with a focus on jewelry in 2008, but has focused primarily on on glassblowing since then. While creativity is at the heart of everything he produces, some of Kort's work reflects the concept that not all glass art necessarily revolves around beauty.
