About
The band Xinema was formed in Sweden 1999 by three friends:Mikael Askemur (Main vocals, guitar, bass and keyboards.),
Sven Larsson (Guitar, backing vocals) and
Jonas Ekman (Drums, vocals, backing vocals).Originally, way back in the mid 80:s, the members involved played together in a Swedish prog band called Madrigal. At that time the music was quite inspired by the likes of Rush, Genesis, Yes, Kansas and Styx and was leaning heavily towards complexity and skilful playing. During that period, many songs were written and the band toured around in Sweden. As that band split up in the early 90:s, the guys stayed in and out of touch with each other during the following years, and worked together as well as individually on many different projects. By the summer of -98 however, the guys occasionally got together, and came to the conclusion that re-rearranging and re-recording of some of the older material would be a good thing to do.
One thing led to another and in august of 2002, the band's début, the full-length cd ”Different ways”, was released by Unicorn Records. In essence, with a few exceptions it's a compilation of the older songs from the ”Madrigal” era. Around 2001 though, when ”Different ways” was completed, another band called ”Madrigal” had emerged on the web. Since the band at that time was newly reformed, a name change was inevitable, and they decided to go for Xinema.
The new full-length cd ”Basic communication”, is the first genuine Xinema album with exclusively new material. Presenting an album of great variety and dynamics, Xinema's aim as usual, is to deliver a good set of relevant and consistent songs. The band's motto is: "-A good song is always a good song, regardless of genre.” Speaking of which, you'll definitely find Xinema in the rock department, be that with an ”artful” or sometimes progressive twist.
The new cd comes across as more powerful, articulated and with a bit more attitude than its predecessor ”Different ways”. This is a band that will spare no effort in the process of maintaining their solid musical integrity, and has always done things their own way.

Jonas Ekman (Batterie, chant, chœurs).A l'origine, si on remonte aux années 80, les membres jouaient déjà ensemble dans un groupe de rock progressif suédois appelé Madrigal. À cette époque, la musique était très inspirée de groupes tels que Rush, Genesis, Yes, Kansas et Styx et penchait lourdement vers une complexité et un jeu habile. Egalement à cette époque, le groupe écrivit beaucoup de chansons et tourna en Suède. Bien que le groupe se sépara dans les années 90, les membres restèrent en contact pendant les années à venir, et travaillèrent, aussi bien ensemble qu'individuellement, sur différents projets. À l'été 98 cependant, les garçons se réunirent occasionnellement, et arrivèrent à la conclusion qu'il serait bon de réarranger et réenregistrer certains des vieux morceaux.
Une chose menant à une autre, le mois d'août 2002 voyait les débuts du groupe avec l'album "Different Ways" sorti sous le label canadien Unicorn Records. Il s'agit essentiellement, à part quelques exceptions, d'une compilation d'anciennes chansons de la période Madrigal. Vers 2001, bien que "Different Ways" fut terminé, un autre groupe appelé Madrigal fit son apparition sur Internet. Puisque le groupe n'était que récemment reformé, les garçons durent changer le nom du groupe, et optèrent pour Xinema.
Le nouvel album "Basic Communication" est le premier vrai original de Xinema et ne comporte que des morceaux exclusifs. En présentant un album d'une grande variété et dynamique, Xinema vise, comme d'habitude, à offrir une bonne série de chansons pertinentes et cohérentes. La devise du groupe est : "Une bonne chanson est toujours une bonne chanson, quel que soit le genre." En parlant de ça, vous trouverez Xinema dans le département Rock, avec cependant une entorse "maligne" voire progressive parfois.
Le nouvel album donne l'impression d'être plus fort, plus articulé et plus tonique que son prédécesseur "Different Ways". C'est un groupe qui ne lésinera pas sur les efforts pour maintenir sa solide intégrité musicale, et qui a toujours fait les choses à sa façon.
