Bio

Band Members

Craig McCabe (19) – Lead Vocals & Guitar
The youngest member of White Ace, Craig has a great stage presence and always puts 100% into his live performance. His skills on guitar have steadily developed into one of the finest on the unsigned scene. His voice - according to Jacob Sproul, lead singer of Rose Hill Drive – is “smokin”

Chris McCabe (20) – Lead Guitar, Backing Vocals, Harmonica & Piano
Chris has various styles of playing guitar - from slide to tapping his ability is evident as are his inspirations that include the likes of Jimmy Page and Stevie Ray Vaughan. An accomplished all round musician, Chris also brings a touch of blues to some of their new tracks on harmonica and piano. His song writing has flourished over the years and his partnership with his brother Craig is a great combination resulting in the production of some fine tracks.

Gerry Loughrey (21) – Bass Guitar & Backing Vocals
Gerry is laid back on stage, letting the other half of the rhythm section go sticks blazing through the performance and allowing the McCabe’s guitar melodies and vocals to shine. His excellent skills focus on providing the foundation that keeps the band tight and the groove rock solid.

Dave McCluskey (19) – Drums & Percussion
Dave started drumming at the age of 9 with the help of his good friend's uncle Quentin McAfee, who has worked with many successful bands. The more exuberant half of the rhythm section, his enthusiasm is clear for all to see during gigs as is his perfect timing, lightning speed and general brilliance. Phenomenal ability – he was recently described as “one of the best up and coming drummers of his generation”

About

White Ace

White Ace are a very ambitious, hard-working 4-piece Rock act. Formed through their shared passion for rock n roll, they are developing an ever-growing fan base around Scotland and have had lots of extremely positive feedback from bands they have supported, promoters and from first time listeners to their music.

Some Highlights:

  • Crowned winners of the Fury Murry's King of Bands Competition for 2007
  • Playing at The Kelvingroove Festival in summer 2007
  • Releasing a 4 track EP in December 2007
  • Supporting US rock band Rose Hill Drive at King Tut's on a couple of occasions
  • Making their first venture out of Scotland at The Cavern Club, Liverpool in December 07
  • Supporting Stone Gods at King Tut's in January 2008
  • Winners of Ayrplay Battle of the Bands 2008 leading to support slot with Status Quo at Rock @ the Racecourse May 08
  • Headlining "The Ones To Watch" gig @ King Tut's January 09

As the lads were all massive Darkness fans, it was a dream come true to be hanging out with former members Dan Hawkins, Ed Graham and Ritchie Edwards as well as Toby Macfarlaine, especially when they later found some very flattering comments made by them about their performance and their future place in the industry:

Toby Macfarlaine (Stone Gods)
From his "January Retox Tour" blog 20/1/08 (www.stonegods.co.uk)

"Today's Bill is fattened considerably with not one, but two more local support acts. Second up are the quite excellent White Ace who are all of 18 yrs and stomp out a classic sounding thrum. Ace indeed. Them boys'll be all over the gaff soon, I tells yer."

Richie Edwards (Stone Gods & ex The Darkness)
Interview with ‘The Dreaded Press' (Rock Music Webzine, 30/1/08)
Q. What about bands that are out there at the moment? Any young bands you'd like to snap up as support acts?

Richie Edwards: "We had some guys supporting us in Glasgow the other night called White Ace. They're barely eighteen years old but they're the most incredible players and really lovely guys. I went to have a look at them when they went on and I was totally blown away.

I found their EP in my suitcase just this morning and banged it on in my computer, and it's really f*cking good. It may be a little bit naïve in places, but give those guys a year, or a bit of time with someone who can shape them a little bit, and they'll be knock-outs."

Manager of Pharaohs Club after a gig there in July last year
“Absolutely Breathtaking!........is how I'd describe White Ace's performance with us on the 28th of July.  These guys are HOT, HOT, HOT! They commanded the stage and the attention of the audience with the greatest of ease.

Their material is just pure class - way beyond their years. Songs like "I Feel Fine" and "Tall Blonde Girl" have it ALL as indeed do the band, not a weakness amongst them. They kept things tight and displayed excellent timing throughout. The vocals just blended into each song in such a way that at times it was very difficult to believe that you weren't watching and listening to a top notch, established band.

Very rarely have I been so impressed! My only advice to them is to keep doing what you're doing and don't just jump in when you get offers because I can see you getting lots once you've had sufficient exposure - so get out there and get as much as you can!

Well Done, Well Done indeed!”

Influences
AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Thin Lizzy/Gary Moore, Thunder, The Black Crowes, Guns n Roses, Bon Jovi, Free, Deep Purple, along these lines. Whilst they have many Rock/Blues influences, they aim to keep their sound as original as possible.
