Western Avenue / Press

“Perhaps The Band Perry and Lady A should kindly step aside. We all love both of these groups dearly, but there is always room for one more trio. Western Avenue has got what it takes to prove that much.”

“The Canadian-based trio of Nikki English, Keith Robertson and Matt Williams have developed country into a powerful vehicle for deep feeling and expressive writing without sacrificing an inch of country vitality. They combine the ethos of country with the warmth of love songs and the heat of rock. The lyrics they write and play are about loss and joy and nostalgia, and most of all, about hope. And they do it with great hooks, earworm melodies and classic country arrangements .”

“Their sound mirrors Lady Antebellum at times, as their hit single "Wherever You Are" has a strong, memorable chorus.”

“Their EP offering is stacked with radio-ready originals and attractive duet vocal leads worthy of major label interest. Production is smart as well. 4 stars”

“Canadian trio who have more than a hint of Lady Antebellum about them both vocally and in the musical arrangements on this classy seven-song mini-album. They’ve been together for seven years, and it shows in the skilled vocal interplay and the sheer quality of this little collection. Highly recommended.”

Alan Cackett - Maverick Magazine

“Western Avenue is breathtaking. Phenomenal production, vocals, lyrical content and instrumentation. This ensemble is Grammy bound. Their music is cross generational; and we have no doubt in our minds that they will become an international smash. If country music needed a facelift, then they would be its plastic surgeon. True talent coupled with immense marketability...”

“The lovely melody and harmonizing of the male and female vocals drive the song beautifully, suggesting both an aching and hope. 4 our of 5 stars.”

“The songs sound sincere and the band offers up an album that contains a distinct and memorable sound with their own brand of melody-driven pop-country. One can hear crossover potential on almost every track.”

“The songs are well-written with all members contributing to the material selection. From “Highway Headin‟ Out Of Town” to the acoustic “Wherever You Are,” this collection offers a distinct and memorable sound.”

“They are going to be BIG! I have a sense for these things, and I am sitting here listening to their music and I felt it. They are born for this and REALLY got a different sound and feel. BIG!!! Just wait and see. BIG!”

Kim Ward - Chattin' In Manhattan

“-Western Avenue is a Canadian trio comprised of Nikki English, Keith Robertson and Matt Williams. She sings a smoky low lead vocal on this stately, thumping ballad, and the guys chime in with perfectly placed harmonies. All three are song writers on their fine, eponymous titled debut CD. Recommended.”

Robert K. Oermann - Music Row Magazine

“Their harmonies are truly incredible.”

“Canada has given us some of the format’s all-time greats such as Hank Snow, Shania Twain, and Anne Murray. There could be a new place at that table for a talented trio from Ontario named Western Avenue. “Wherever You Are” is... definitely a showcase for their vocal talent, which they have tons of.”

" 7 tracks of beautiful melodies, great vocal and music arrangements. I give this band 4.5 out of 5.”

“Canadian music act, Western Avenue, offers up a modern country sound that’s filled with great vocal harmonies thanks to their lineup of husband and wife members, Nikki English-Robertson, (vocals) and Keith Robertson, (guitar, vocals) along with Matt Williams (guitar, vocals). I really liked the modern country sound that I heard…and look forward to hearing future projects from the band.”

“Their latest single to radio ‘Wherever You Are’, is a perfect showcase for the band. Musically the performance is top drawer, the production stands up to current sounds on today’s radio, crisp, clear and good separation. Vocally, pure tight and sincere, great delivery and pleasing sonically. The song, written by Dave Woods and lead singer Nikki English is a strong piece of work and deserves to be heard.”

“The song (Wherever You Are) has great lyrics and excellent musical production. I think I see a hit on the horizon!”

“The harmonies are great. The melody is catchy. ("Wherever You Are") is a great example of how harmonies in country music can be amazing.”

“Western Avenue is sensational. A mixture of pop, country and folk. Smashing production, smooth tracks and crystal vocals. This ensemble has the potential to pop at any given moment. Their music is heart felt. The lyrical content screams humanity. It's only a matter of time this group gets into the right hands at the right time. For now, they have landed a spot on our 360 Watch List”

“Wherever You Are" is a fabulous song!”

Dixie McCorkell - Triplestrand Promotions

“Before they became Western Avenue, there was a specific would-be show that brought the trio of Nikki English, Keith Robertson and Matt Williams together.”

“COBOURG - Friday night was a celebration for contemporary country music band Western Avenue and the culmination of months of hard work on their first EP album. More than 250 fans packed the concert hall at Victoria Hall in Cobourg for a full concert by Western Avenue, which performed the six original songs mixed in with other musical favourites, as part of their self-titled CD release party. The event sold out in three days when the tickets went on sale back in January. The band members are Cobourg’s Matt Williams and Peterborough’s Nikki English and Keith Robertson (a Colborne native). “Putting this together we decided either between Peterborough or Cobourg and we were like ‘the support down here has been remarkable and why not do it at Victoria Hall?” Williams said. “Western Avenue is currently working on an EP album, which is expected to contain six or seven songs and be released by fall. Their first single, a catchy tune (which Williams played during this interview for a sneak peak) called Highway Headin’ Out of Town, is developing nicely in the recording process and could be out by the time the band performs Canada Day at the Cobourg Waterfront Festival. ”
