Join us on for the opening reception for our three Local Artists of the Month, Tristan Collins, Barbie Angell and Scott Sutton. Local Music provided by the Wendi Loomis and light refreshments. About the Artists: With a BFA in illustration from Parsons the New School for Design, Tristan Collins is a jack of all trades when it comes to art materials. He'll be showing acrylic and spray paint on canvas, but also works with oil, mixed media, and digital platforms. His subjects range from personal to political to commercial. How does he decide what to work on? "It all depends on what needs to be said." This show marks the first time that Barbie Angell is showing her original fine art. Voted a Best of WNC Poet in the Mountain Xpress Readers' Poll for the past three years & a Best of WNC Social Media Personality for 2013, Barbie is mostly known as a local writer & Twitter satirist. Her first book of children's poetry, Roasting Questions, endorsed by Rosanne Cash & David LaMotte, features her "refrigerator art" illustrations. "It's the kind of thing a mom would hang on her fridge." Barbie can be found on Twitter as @barbieangell, at www.barbieangell.com or hiding under her desk. Scott Sutton is a self-taught artist who predominantly works in oils. Since moving to Asheville earlier this year, he has been using Duo Aqua Oils, a water-based oil color. He will be showing all portraits at True Blue this month, but does frequently produce narrative pieces as well. Among the art he will be displaying, is a new portrait of Asheville artist Greg Vineyard.
