WeirdGear started in 1994 by Paul Wolfe and Lee Maher in a rented flat in Chalkwell, near Southend on Sea. The idea was simple - to make dance music or music to dance to without computers. Collecting many analogue synths, drum machines and effects boxes they lived out their ideal. They enlisted Dave Panter and Paul Barlow in 1999 to help with the progression and development of WeirdGear, bringing their qualities to the music and group dynamic. They play completely without sequencers, samplers or backing tapes at all times creating a unique electronic sound. Trying to emulate their electronic music heroes who made their sounds through the 70's and 80's without the aid of MIDI, just pure melodies, songwriting and playing ability. After a couple of enforced hiatus, they started working in earnest in September 2006 and played their debut gig in January 2007.
