Bio
‘All About You’ has been a labour of love for Vlada. More than five years in the making and completed without the backing of a major record label, Vlada’s debut album features an astonishing line-up of world class performers, such as drummer Vinnie Colaiuta (Sting, Herbie Hancock, Frank Zappa), bassist Abraham Laboriel (Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles) and guitarist Paul Jackson Jr. (Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Destiny’s Child). And that’s before factoring in ten-times Grammy Award-winning vocal group Take 6 and renowned saxophonist Kirk Whalum!
About
Birthday
Easter Sunday, 11th April 1971, in Aarau (Switzerland)
1970s
First audio recording of Vlada singing “La Paloma Blanca” >> imitating Elvis at the age of 6 >> Violin lessons (my grandfather was a violin-maker), but I preferred playing keyboards and football!
1980s
First, rather modest own compositions (Disco!) >> Discovering jazz and funk >> lead singer of high school band “The Berets”.
1990s
Studies at the University of Zurich (English Literature & Linguistics, Economics) >> Attending Jazz School Zurich (jazz vocals & theory) >> Singer and musical director of funk-gospel-group “awake”, with hundreds of performances and three CD productions. In that period I won my spurs as singer, songwriter, arranger, producer, and promoter. But I’m still learning...
Since 2002
Self-employed as a musician and promotion manager in the music industry
2003
Studio recordings of 14 songs for my debut album, with some of my personal heroes, including Vinnie Colaiuta, Abraham Laboriel, Paul Jackson Jr., and Take 6.
2004
Foundation of my own 12-piece band VLADA. Putting further recordings of debut album on hold.
2006
Recordings in Nashville (Kirk Whalum, the Kibbles, Chris Kent, Darrell Tibbs, among others), co-produced by Mark Kibble (Take 6).
2007
My third trip to Nashville opens new doors for me. I decide to give up my dream job in the music industry and become a musician full-time. >> Another 3 months in Nashville, where I continue working on the album (lead vocals, editing, mixing) and make many new friends. >> Foundation of my US-band.
2008
IÂ’m going back to Nashville in spring in order to finish the debut album (mastering, photo session, artwork, etc.), look for distribution and then play, play, play with my US band. I look forward to 2008!
