Bio

VILLROT started up again as a folkfusionband at the late nineties. Some years earlier the band Tabula Rasa based in Trondheim, Norway, started using the VILLROT name, but after a silent period Hans Melhus brought VILLROT into a more folkrelated music style together with Jorunn Skaldmoy. Adolphe Flan Gueu did percussions for a while, and finally the drummer Espen Julgeitson Mindreboe went back to his old band with great energy and spirit. On the base Paul Hoff Balzersen is a very dedicated musican who brings good vibrations to the main constellation of VILLROT. There are also assosciated members contributes from time to time. VILLROT-music often contains the sound of old historical instruments as hurdygurdy, harps, fiddles, nordic bagpipe and more, used in old nordic tunes/ballades mixed with new creations and improvising

About

Villrot

villrot.no

- is a Norwegian band doing their kind of music since 1999.

This music is inspired from old Norwegian folkmusic mixed with new creations and improvising.

The members of the group have been studying and performing traditional music as well as blues, rock, jazz, and been working in different groups and bands since 80´s, some times together.

Villrot uses some old historical instruments in the performances, as hardingfiddle, hurdygurdy, jawharp, nordic bagpipe and keyfiddles. The songs are in norwegian, some are lullabyes, old ballads and even some joik. Loedoelja is a river in the mountains by the Trondheimsfjord, and the song is dedicated to the protection of this nature area, against the electrisity company who wants to build a dam. Norway is almost the only country left in Europe where you still find nature unspoiled.
