All the key ingredients for a passion and some essential factors for the fresh vibe behind Venus in Motion’s debut album, Walking in Limbo, released in 2007.  It was signed to Spain’s largest independent record label, Blanco y Negro, and began to win hearts and minds and earned early admiration from some of Ibiza’s leading names behind the music and DJ sets you so often experience during the white Isle’s famed, magical sunsets.  It also featured one of the only tracks to gain family support from the estate of Bob Marley – for This Woman, a stunning interpretation of No Woman No Cry.

The music itself is inspired by jazz, soul, folk, reggae and dub. It embodies both an electronic and an organic vibe. The tracks distinctively weave together the sounds from long term collaborators like guitarist Tony Dallas and Chris Bucknall on keyboards… sweetly elevated by the awesome vocal talents of Siobhan Lynch, Naomi Moss and Cheryl Marshall.   

Little wonder that Venus in Motion is finding a new home away from Ibiza’s sunset strip cafes, now featuring alongside top-selling artists, such as Moloko, Nightmares on Wax, DJ Shadow & Afterlife on this year’s top selling chill out compilations in Spain and Germany - including 3 tracks from the forthcoming second album.  Tracks are also regularly play-listed on Ibiza’s largest Dance Music Radio Station, Ibiza Global Radio, helping Venus in Motion to find a wider international audience, further building on the success of Walking in Limbo, where most of its 14 tracks were featured on Spain’s top 10 chill out compilations in 2007 and 2008.  

It was not always like that of course.  Before changing her new-found hobby – clubbing – into a passion then a career, the 16 year-old Miss Johnson immersed herself in Nottingham’s nightlife scene, after finishing work on a Friday, dressing-up and heading out to Rock City to dance to the latest sounds in jazz funk, electro and soul.  

The love for music blossomed back further still, where a young Angel would sit for hours upon end listening to her father’s favourite artists in his record collection like Shirley Bassey, the Beatles, Gladys Knight and Cat Stevens.  Later on, this was to inspire her to build her own record collection, starting with Kate Bush and Royse Rose.

Before her DJ work, she started to experiment in recording, working with some friends who had a four track recording studio.  It ended up with some basic demos and the song-writing and arranging helped to forge a philosophy of seeking like-minded people to collaborate with on the future projects.  Later on, those requests for her input on numerous and various music projects eventually came.  Opportunities derived from incredible hard work and dedication and whilst being a full-time mother.  It was always obvious to Angel that her real musical yearning was producing music… music to sooth, the same way the chill out sounds she listened to after a weekends DJ-ing soothed her.  That is Angel Johnson – Venus... in Motion.
