Bio: In late October 2008, the theater was purchased by a Boyertown resident. Kevin Rhude. Renaming the historical landmark the "State Theatre of Boyertown" his vision is to transform the original movie cinema into a "Theatre of the Arts." As 35mm film availibility becomes limited due to the industry conversion to digital, the theatre continues to build its schedule of live performances. Music concerts are a popular event, especially an annual "Battle of the Bands" competition, but other genres: theatrical plays, dance performances, music productions, comedy and community events are of increasing demand. In October 2009, a 12' x 22' stage was added to the existing stage, in order to allow the venue to be more versatile. The 101 year old building continues to undergo structural and operational upgrades as well as aesthetic renovations in order to restore the original integrity. The State Theatre of Boyertown will continue to offer movies at this time, but their goal is to increase the diversity of their live entertainment schedule for all patrons to enjoy.
