Bio: The Neck of the Woods Performance Series is a monthly event that takes place at the Twisted Vine Wine Shoppe in downtown Wake Forest. I started the series in the spring of 2006 because I am a performing artist (a dancer) who wanted to create a venue in my neck of the woods (Wake Forest). Since April, the Neck of the Woods has showcased the work of a wide variety of artist, including musicians/bands, dancer, comedians, actors, poets, and more. The venue is beautiful -- lots of exposed brick and old wood -- and every artists who participates comments on who much they love the intimate space. I will tell you up front that at this time the gig is not paid, although we do collect donations from the audience and split it among the artists. Hopefully some day in the future the artists will be compensated, but for now it's just a great way to get your work out there, sell CDs, and play to an audience that actually LISTENS will full attention to your art. In a way, the venue is kind of a cross between a bar and a living room, so it's almost like a very large house concert. The event is generating a lot of interest in the area (we've had great press in both the local paper and the Raleigh News and Observer) and we're developing a growing, loyal fan base.
