Every Wednesday Evening at 8pm.

Upstairs at The Golden Lion, 2 High St., Romford, Essex, RM1 1HR

Make it a date - Wednesday at eight!

Whether you sing, play or just want to listen to some great music in probably the friendliest atmosphere in the country, you'll be made very welcome at The Havering Folk Club.

We now have our own programme finalised for the rest of the 2009. As well as our usual open sessions we have:

Wed 8th July, guest artists Vicky Swan & Jonny Dyer. Always very popular at HFC, they will be launching their new album.

Wed 5th August, member's featured evening with Bert Dady and Keith Petty.

Wed 2nd September, Al Neville and the new six-piece Blue Grass Band with whom he now plays, The Spangles Gang.

Then on  Saturday 26th September we have a one-off event in the bar of The Golden Lion when Triangle will be launching their new album (cover photos by our Simon) and they'll be supported by Kiss the Mistress, two guys and a gal from up Suffolk way who have their own unique style. Entry will be free.

Wed 7th October, member's featured evening with Smolowik. Smolowik sings his own songs in a variety of styles as wel as an eclectic mix of covers, all in his own original style.

Wednesday 4th November guest artists Maggie Sand & Sandragon; a mixture of traditional folk and medeival music, some of you will recall that Maggie and one other of the band members did a floor spot here a few weeks ago.

Wed 16th December, Christmas dinner at the Golden Lion followed by our usual open session and to see out the year on

Wednesday 23rd December we'll have an informal singaround for as many as will. Should be good.

Past Events at havering Folk Club:

Here's the programme for the first half of 2009  and very good it all was too.

Foxen

John & Margaret, otherwise known as Foxen have our first member's featured evening on February 11th. Always amusing and entertaining, their performance should not be missed. Margaret does a wicked Esmerelda impersonation with her tambourine as well!

Pete Grassby

March sees our first guest artist of the year, namely Pete Grassby.  I've known Pete as a nodding acquaintence for several years but got talking to him in more depth at last year's Thaxted Morris Ring meeting. This resulted in an invitation to come to HFC as a guest artist. Singer, musician, melodean repairer, morris dancer, roller skater extraordinaire and Coventry's answer to goodness only knows who; another must-see artist.

Andy Roberts

In April Andy Roberts takes over the member's featured slot. Andy Roberts joined us last year and has been a popular regular ever since. A performer able to vary his style, an entertaining evening is bound to result.

Nancy Kerr & James Fagan

High profile guests Nancy Kerr & James Fagan take to the stage in May and this will probably be a sell-out evening, so come early to make sure of a seat. Hugely popular, I last caught them at the Leigh Folk Festival.

The Andy Smythe Trio

Bringing us up to the halfway stage of the year are guests The Andy Smythe Trio. Two of the trio I know well. Andy himself and bassist Les Elvin have both played previously at HFC to great effect. I don't know Barry Targett so I've that pleasure to come.
