Bio: The Edge CoffeeHouse is the name, and the "Edge" has always been an apt description of the history and spirit of this Midtown coffeehouse. Always at the forward edge of business innovation, The Edge first opened in 1994 in shared space with alternate hours in an early morning/afternoon restaurant on Madison, opening behind their afternoon close to create great coffee shop vibrations late afternoon through early morning. Subsequently, the shop was relocated to 532 South Cooper, where it boomed for three years. A 1997 business plan envisioned the shop at Union and McLean, site of the old Pancho's, but the cost was beyond reach. "Corporate coffee" (with plenty of capital) later confirmed the desirability of the location. The Edge later relocated to the old Kang Rhee Studio on Poplar (now the Hi Tone), closing in July 1998. It reopened in the current space on North Watkins in July of 2008. We'e lived up to the name. Over the years The Edge has been Memphis first: • Internet café, • Originals only music venue, • Specialty Coffee drive-through window, • Mobile Coffeehouse for off-site events, • Twenty-four hour Specialty Coffeehouse, • Text Order Drive-By-Coffee • Live Streaming on events on www.MemphisEdge.TV The coffeehouse is at the intersection of Overton Park Avenue and North Watkins, in midtown,on the western edge of the beautiful Evergreen Historic District. That vantage point places it at the eastern edge and with a view of the entire Sears Crosstown structure.The Edge serves only the best hot and cold coffee and espresso beverages, including the signature "Avalanche, "World Famous Highly Addictive Double Espresso Milk Shake" as well as a wide selection of soft drinks, energy drinks, vitamin water, etc. The newly expanded food menu includes lots of sandwiches, wraps, and salads, snacks and desserts, not to mention the awesome Edge Espresso chili. The Edge has everything you would find in a night club except the whiskey, smoke, and drugs. It is kid-safe and friendly, clean and comfortable. At The Edge there is never "nothing to do." The clientele is rarely bored. The Edge offers an event most every night, often streamed live on www.MemphisEdge.TV : live original music, songwriters' night, karaoke, and spoken word and poetry readings in collaboration with the Memphis Bureau of "The Bruised Peach", national poetry newsletter. We host art shows, art sales, role playing games, legal poker, currently we are playing/developing/evolving "Memphis Trivia." The Edge has in-house computers, free WiFi, {T1 LAN if you need it) a lending library, great jukebox, house piano, guitar, PA system, And Most of all ! . . . An awesomely interesting clientele! Our Current Hours: 6:00 am to 1:00 am Monday - Friday. 12:00 PM to 1:00 AM Saturday and Sunday. {24/7 again by fall semester we hope!}
