Bio
Union County started 24 years ago in the little town of Albany, GA. Steve Thompson was born at 10:45 am with a Gibson les paul in his hand. He sang the Doctors a song he had written in the womb as the nurses washed the amniotic fluid off of his little body. 6 Months later a little boy named Alan Peterson was brought into the world in High Point, NC...within minutes he spoke his first word......."Harmony". It seemed as though these two phenoms were destined to spend their lives apart until one day Steve was riding his bike and saw a great meteor in the sky. It was of course headed towards High Point, NC and he quickly turned north to ride to the rescue of the little city! When he arrived he cranked his amp to 11 and rocked the meteor back towards the sky, saving the lives of thousands! Alan noticed the intense rock that was coming from the direction of the Krispy Kreme doughnut shop and he quickly hurried over to thank his rescuer. Steve watched as Alan walked up the street, saving children, preventing accidents, and helping old ladies cross to safety...he too was a hero. Alan came into the Krispy Kreme and the dough-tender handed him a glazed cruller (his usual) and everyone cheered as the 3 year old walked around the shop singing harmony to the song on the radio...."Crazy Train" by: Black Sabbath. Steve walked over and offered his hand in friendship to the local celebrity. Alan thanked Steve for the save and sang him a improvised song called "Thanks for the save". After 7 seconds of weeping Steve dried his eyes and began singing harmony to the song along with Alan.....it was the song Steve had written in the womb. The boys locked eyes and knew....they were a Union of friends like no other......and this Union was where they would live forever in each other's friendship.......in their own "UNION COUNTY".
About
Union County consists of two members: Alan Peterson and Steve Thompson. UC began at Appalachian State University in 2005. Alan had been playing guitar and singing for many years and had recently started getting serious about his songwriting. Steve had been writing and playing in band's for years and was looking for someone to build a unique band with. Alan and Steve were both music majors at Appalachian and got to know each other in a choir that they both sang in. The thing that they really remember most about the formation of their friendship is cigars. The first few times they hung out were on opposite sides of burning tobacco and billowing clouds of thick white smoke. Alan and Steve spoke of pain, happiness, freedom, aspiration, religion, fear, and most of all...love. Not from a disgustingly chipper angle or as though it were a redoubtable opponent. Instead they spoke of love as it is: the center of all things. This belief at the core of each of them bound them together in a tight friendship very quickly. Months went on and one night Steve and Alan played some music together in Steve's apartment. In this one night it was abundantly clear to both men that there was a special spark in the sound. The styles were different. Alan's leaned toward folk/jazz and Steve's pushed towards rock/pop, but the mesh seemed effortless. The two were equally impressed with one another's ability and decided to try to work something out. Alan and Steve were immediately pleased with the way their voices sounded while singing together...and they quickly realized that this "Union" of styles was one that was strong. It only took a few practices and they were writing songs with the other person's part in mind and before long they had established a home for their specific musical creations..."Union County". The rest is future history.
