UNDADOGG aka UMBRELLA MAFIA

A female fronted, five piece Toronto band, incorporating trip hop, indie alt-rock, dark atmospherics, hints of drum and bass and break beats, reggae and dub, moody melodies, heartbreaking lyrics and sultry vocals, UNDADOGG‘s sound is familiar, but refreshingly unique and difficult to forget. Formed in 1998, UNDADOGG is singer/lyricist Andrea Lucarelli, twin brothers Ruben-guitar, and Remi Miguez-drums who have all been playing together since high school, newest member bassist Rene Rodriguez, and keyboardist Sam Taromina.

UNDADOGG’s live performance is definitely their strength, and always satisfies their ever-growing fan base. Appealing to an odd mismatch of trip hop/electronic fans, hip hoppers, goths, indie rockers and even punks, UNDADOGG create a mood that sets them apart from the masses. UNDADOGG can also accommodate to smaller, more intimate venues by playing stripped down and acoustic, incorporating upright bass, djembe, acoustic guitar, accordion and xylophone.

UNDADOGG recently played in front of a crowd of 500+ as part of FAT- Toronto Alternative Fashion Week, their 3rd year playing the event. The band has also been featured live to air on CKLN 88.1FM radio performing live acoustic sets and interviews as part of the Dub and Beyond program numerous times this past year. In 2008, the band was featured on the Rogers TV show Daytime, where they were interviewed and performed 2 live songs.

UNDADOGG have released 4 independent discs to date; “Ano De Dolor” (1999) “Jinx” (2005), “Jinxed“ (2007) in which they received a FACTOR demo grant to record the album, and “Open Up My Eyes” (2009) a Cd Single under the new moniker UMBRELLA MAFIA. On the last 2 releases, UNDADOGG worked with Juno nominated producer George Seara to create their best recordings to date. Lead Singer Andrea has also released a 3 song CD single collaboration entitled “Breathe“ with Toronto DJ duo Version Xcursion. The track debuted at 1 on CKLN’s electronic chart, and this past year collaborated on 2 new songs with VX for their “Best of” disc released in Nov 2008.

Over the years UNDADOGG have gained respect, credibility and established themselves as one of the few bands in Toronto doing something different. Playing the live circuit in a sea of punk, metal and rock, UNDADOGG’s music can’t help but stand out and get noticed.
