Bio
In the past few years, pianist, accordionist and keyboardist Tyson Naylor has quickly and firmly established himself as one of Canada's finest musical talents. Naylor’s playing can be heard on a great many recordings, spanning genres from Improvised Music and Jazz to Folk. Tyson has made numerous appearances at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival. He's played and toured throughout Canada, the US, Germany and Poland with artists such as Tobias Delius, François Houle, Keith Lowe, Jesse Zubot, Mother Mother, Ndidi Onokwulu, and steel guitarist/producer Steve Dawson. He has recently relocated to Berlin, Germany.
About
Some of the artists who have had an impact, big or small, on Naylor's quartet project are Wayne Horvitz, Misha Mengelberg, Ornette Coleman, Tortoise, Elliott Smith, McCoy Tyner, Guy Klucevsek, and Ali Farka Toure. Aside from Naylor’s keyboards, the quartet is comprised of Kenton Loewen on drums, Tommy Babin on bass and Gord Grdina on guitar. Their first album will be released in 2009, followed by a European tour.
Naylor is the recent recipient of a personal development grant from Canada Council to study with Norwegian pianist Haavard Wiik (Atomic, Free Fall) in Berlin, Germany.
