Brazil Meets Bluegrass The syncopated rhythms of the traditional choro folk music of Brazil are echoed in the bluegrass style of Kentucky. The Downtown Arts Center celebrates this Bluegrass-Brazil connection by presenting globally-recognized choro artists Trio Brasileiro and local Bluegrass favorites Restless Leg String Band for an evening of perfect picking and spectacular strumming on May 9 at 7:30 p.m.! Trio Brasileiro returns to the DAC for their third performance in the Black Box Theatre. Each of the three musicians is a stand-alone success. Douglas Lora is one half of the award winning Brazil Guitar Duo; Dudu Maia is one of Brazil's most celebrated mandolin virtuosos; and Alexandre Lora is an amazing percussionist and brother of Douglas. The trio is also half of the highly regarded Brazilian Choro ensemble, Caraivana. With sounds both modern and vintage, Trio Brasileiro continues to delight with intricate and interwoven melodies that leave audiences with high praise for this traditional music of Brazil. Describing themselves as "bluegrass distilled straight from the heart of Kentucky", Restless Leg String Band has developed a loyal following in the Lexington area. Alex Guagenti, Brandt Miller, Casen Baumgardner, Joe Schlaak, Jacob Wigginton perform traditional bluegrass with a unique flair that is sure to keep your toes tapping! Local favorite and DAC neighbor Alfalfa's Restaurant will provide a cash bar in the lobby of the DAC.
