“.... I see leather jacketed bikers, bikers acid, psychedelic dancing, body painting, and in equal measure I see locust plagues, I see dust bowls, fires in the forest and lava unrestrained, and I don’t hear Nirvana, I don’t hear Soundgarden,
It chews out chunks of exposed flesh. It could burn the undergrowth. And the contrast, the contradiction, Tribe, truly the nicest, gentlest people you might meet, versus such savagery.
“The aboriginal strategy was to remove the fuel”
And that fuel was used to make this recording.”
TRIBE - Anam EP
“Skyliner is Dan Bardon and Simon Mateer’s sapling, a cross fertilisation between the work going on at Simon’s My First Recorder Studios, the Ruffhous’ of Scream, the Belfastacana of Robert Holmes, accented by crossover hybrids like Tribe who sounded like a Velvet Underground for the 21st century and the Monotonous Tones who grind like purveyors of US garage rock should grind, combined with the festival element that Dan brings to the table, his Nature Studies project and DJ’s Venus Rollergirl and Kiani bringing the world of dubstep and trance into the mix.
On entry its art on the walls, people drawing on the floor, Art Dave I think, it’s all ages and all manner of thud, people dancing, why no acid backdrops, talking about the music, making connections – after Scream played on request we handed out all the information cards we had with us – it’s the place where everyone desires new music, hybrids, mix, even guitar virtuosos are welcomed, it’s craven and craving.”
Review from Skyliner gig
“Please let me introduce to you; a band born in the summer of last year, performing for you now around Northern Ireland, with a collection of sounds from around the world, TRIBE
Tribe was formed though various jamming sessions gathered amongst friends in the summer of 2011. Starting first in the park and various art, poi dancing and music parties. Near a year on, we perform at venues and festivals around Northern Ireland. We are an original unsigned act producing a tribal rock sound with a grungy edge to it. We still also include Art and Poi dancing is in the act.
A copy of our current set is now up on http://www.reverbnation.com/TribeMusicPage
